Celebration of the Eucharist

Weekend Saturday Vigil: 5:30 PM Sunday 9 AM & 11 AM

Weekdays: 8:30AM Monday Tuesday Wednesday & Friday

Sacrament of Reconciliation Saturday at 4:30 PM or by appointment

Dear Parishioners,

Two weeks ago at our Parish Mission, Terry Battaglia talked about each of us being in the middle of the cross. Being in the middle suggests that we are a connection to the past and to the future. We know a little of the history and the tradition of the Cross of Jesus Christ and we are invited to in some way share that with future generations so they too can know what it is that we cherish in our faith.

I was struck by Terry’s words and it caused me to

think that in just a few weeks we will be celebrating the wonderful liturgies of Holy Week. In many ways you and I stand in the middle of the most powerful liturgies of the Church year as we celebrate the mystery of Christ’s passion, death and Resurrection. We connect the past to the future by inviting our children and grandchildren to join us at these sacred moments so the story of our faith can continue to be told. I want to encourage every household in the parish to join us for at least one of the liturgies on Holy Thursday (8pm); Good Friday (3pm); or the Easter Vigil (9pm). If you have not been to one of these liturgies in a while, it will be worth your time.

Finally, if you know someone who does not have a

church, someone who might be looking for a place to worship, invite them to join you. The music, the prayers, the ritual action is inspiring and uplifting. In the words of Pope Francis, your invitation can be a powerful form of accompaniment that has the potential to lead another into a more graced relationship with Jesus.

I hope the week ahead is good for you.

Fr. Tom Dragga

Prayer. O God, you hear our cry and raise us up to new life in Christ Jesus. May that new life give us courage to challenge our nation’s decision makers to do more to reduce hunger and poverty in our world. Amen. Action. Take three minutes to write a brief letter to one of your senators or to your representative in Congress. Urge them to sustain and strengthen programs that will get our nation and the world on track to end extreme hunger and poverty by 2030. Visit www.bread.org/act to find sample letters, along with the names of your senators and representative.

Individual Confessions Additional opportunities for the Sacrament of Reconciliation will be on Wednesdays, April 5 and 12 from 7:00 to 8:00 PM in the Worship Space Confessional.

Passover/Feast of Unleavened Bread Passover (Greek, ta pascha) was the annual Jewish family celebration remembering God’s deliverance of Israel from Egypt. In particular, the term recalls God’s striking down of every Egyptian firstborn, both children and animals, and “passing over” the Hebrews whose houses were marked with lamb’s blood. To this feast was joined an eight-day period when only unleavened bread could be eaten. Their leaven was not like our powdered yeast, but rather a fermentation agent as is used in making sourdough bread today. Thus leavened bread contained a corrupting agent that would render it “unclean” for ritual use on this most sacred feast.

(4) We commit ourselves to serve others and reach out to the poor in response to their needs. Our work for justice extends to advocating with integrity for positive change in society and the Church.

Family Volunteers Needed Are you looking for an opportunity for you and your kids to help the less privileged in Cleveland? We are looking for volunteers to help out four times a year at the Thea Bowman Center. We prepare and serve meals at Thea Bowman Center to over 125 people the fourth Saturday of January, April, July and October. We carpool from Resurrection at 10:40am and return by 2pm. Please contact Margaret Jung at 440-542-0307 or [email protected] (Please put Thea Bowman Center in the subject line). Thank you for your generosity. Margaret Jung" “I try to make sense of life. I try to keep myself open to people and to laughter and to love and to have faith.” Thea Bowman

Support to End the Death Penalty Executions for several Ohio inmates have been postponed by Governor Kasich following a federal court decision barring the state’s lethal injection protocol. Join your voice with others to urge Governor Kasich to not allow the resumption of executions in Ohio. It has been three years since the last execution. We know that Ohioans can be safe from dangerous criminals while holding them accountable without taking their lives. You can call the governor at 614-466-3555 with your personal request that he not resume executions, and if you didn’t already, please see the display in the Gathering Area to sign a post card which the Social Justice commission will mail for you.

Support for the Incarcerated Do you, because of the incarceration of a loved one, experience isolation, shame, guilt, and an overwhelming sense of being alone? The LEAF Ministry has been formed to be of support to you. Groups meet monthly offering an opportunity to those who come to listen and share community, network and learn from others who understand their situation, challenges, fears and emotions. All are welcome to participate irrespective of faith affiliation. For more information visit the website: www.leafministry.org No pre-registration is necessary. Holy Angels is holding support groups for families of the incarcerated. If you know of anyone who could benefit from this ministry, please have them contact Bernie Nagle at 440-591-5183 or Donna Angelotti in the Holy Angels Parish Office at 440-708-0000 or [email protected].

Thea Bowman Center Thea Bowman Center in partnership with Nathan Hale School located on Martin Luther King Blvd is in desperate need of help for children 5 to 14 years old. The goal is to help children with reading and math skills. The program will be at Nathan Hale from 2:30 to 4 PM. Parents are supporting this project and the Thea Bowman Center is helping project by trying to recruit tutors. Tutors can give whatever hours/week that they can do: 1 day or 2 days and we ask people to be as consistent as possible because you will be assigned to up to 5 students depending on how much time you can give. Your help would be a major BOOST to the children in this school and to the Mt Pleasant Community. The school has identified about 80 children for the tutoring program. The children will receive a free meal through the food bank. This will be a work in progress but I feel confident that we can help the children/school if we can get the tutor support needed. Please contact Ella Thomas, Executive Director of the Thea Bowman Center, 11901 Oakfield Ave, Cleveland, Ohio 44105. 216-491-0699 or [email protected].

The EDWINS Second Chance Life Skills Center provides a six-month program on successful reentry including a formal curriculum, life planning and dormitory style housing. The 2016 Loaves and Fishes grant from the Church of the Resurrection provided case management and life skills support for students and residents of EDWINS Second Chance Life Skills Center.
