This collaborative project transforms the stairway leading to the Padang Deck into an immersive “garden.” The garden is simulated via digitally composited images of five botanical gardens in Southeast Asia printed onto roller blinds, vinyl and coloured photocopier paper.

Light to Night Festival returns to the Civic District with an enhanced, six-week festival! Our annual urban art event comprises two editions this year, spanning the indoor and outdoor areas of National Gallery Singapore, The Arts House, Asian Civilisations Museum, the Esplanade Park, Victoria Theatre and Victoria Concert Hall.

18–27 JanThe Art Week Edition explores contemporary art and ideas inspired by the Civic District’s histories and stories. The works presented in this edition respond to the theme “Traces and Echoes.”

28 Jan–24 FebThe Bicentennial Edition reflects on the nation’s journey through artworks that reimagine our past. These offer fresh perspectives on significant moments in our history that remain deeply emotional for many.

Minimalism: Space. Light. Object. looks at the emergence, development and legacies of Minimalism from the 1950s to the present day. It considers how artists in Asia, the United States and Europe have explored ideas of presence and absence, often informed by Asian philosophies such as Zen Buddhism. The exhibition features major works by over 60 artists, including Donald Judd, Mark Rothko, Mona Hatoum, Anish Kapoor, Ai Weiwei, Olafur Eliasson and Haegue Yang.

Magic and fantasy unfold as The Explorer encounters a world of museum artefacts and objects that come to life at dusk. The objects transform into mythical creatures and landscape formations, only to return to static at dawn. Here, he realises the cyclical nature of his journey.

William Farquhar, the first British Resident and Commandant of Singapore was a man who defied regulation. Representing disorder in an ordered space, Farquhar commissioned Chinese ink artists to paint outside their traditions and found novel ideas to prevent a cholera epidemic.
