Come join us and spend some quiet time in prayer before the Lord.

From the Desk of Father Ed: Dear Parishioners, It is always a joy to help couples prepare for the Sacrament of Marriage. There is never a doubt that the two are in love with each other. The love that they express and have for each other is real and often palpable but it is very different from the love that married couples have after years of living together and raising children and experiencing the many trials and tribulations of marriage. The love of married couples has been tempered by sacrifice and suffering, which brings about a deeper and truer love for each other. Jesus left us the ultimate sign of His love, that is, the Cross. There is no greater love than this, than to lay down one’s life for His friend. Giving oneself completely to the other in sacrifice is the ultimate sign of true love. In our Gospel this weekend, Jesus asked St. Peter three times, “Do you love me?” (Most likely in response to the three times that Peter denied Him) Each time Peter responded in the affirmative, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” The love that Peter was responding with was not the love that Jesus was asking and looking for. The love that Peter was able to respond with was closer to friendship. Jesus was inviting him into a deep sacrificial love, a spiritual love. A love that responds equally to love received. And the love received is the love of the Son of God dying on a Cross. Jesus said to Peter, “Follow me.” It was a call to respond in love by sacrificing and feeding the disciples, the people of the Church, and to give up his life as Christ did on the Cross. Eventually, St. Peter was able to respond with the love that Jesus called him to. As we continue to celebrate the Season of Easter, the Gospel this weekend challenges us with the same question that our Lord asked St. Peter, “Do you love me?” How will we respond? We have journeyed through Holy Week and entered into Jesus’ Passion, the greatest love story ever told. Jesus invites us to respond to His love, to follow Him. May the Lord pour out His Easter grace upon us so that we can respond to His love by giving ourselves completely to Him through a life of prayer and serving one another. Parish Life: This past weekend I announced at all the Masses that I will be serving the diocese as Vocation Director as of June 13, 2019. The new Administrator for the parish will be Fr. Philip - Michael Tangorra. He will begin his assignment here on August 22. The Temporary Administrator for the parish is Fr. Brendan Murray. He will arrive here on June 23 and leave on August 22. Let us continue to pray for each other especially for Fr. Brendan and Fr. Philip - Michael. Congratulations to our seminarian, now Deacon Jayke who was ordained a Transitional Deacon on Friday, May 3rd. Deacon Jayke has been assigned to our parish for his 6-week summer assignment. Please keep Deacon Jayke in your prayers as he continues in his formation towards the Priesthood. Our Lady Queen of Peace, pray for us, Father Ed, Pastor
