From the Pastor:
Pope Benedict in 2010 talked about the solemnity we celebrate this weekend:
This Sunday of the Most Holy Trinity, in a certain sense sums up God's revelation which was brought about through the Paschal Mysteries: Christ's death and Resurrection, his Ascension to the right hand of the Father and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. The human mind and language are inadequate to explain the relationship that exists between the Fa-ther, the Son and the Holy Spirit; yet the Fathers of the Church sought to illustrate the mystery of the Triune God by living it with deep faith in their own lives.
The divine Trinity takes up his abode in us on the day of our Baptism: "I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit". Every time we sign ourselves with the sign of the Cross we remember God's name in which we were baptized. With regard to the sign of the Cross a the-ologian, Romano Guardini, remarked: "We do it be-fore praying so that... we may put ourselves spiritu-ally in order; focus thoughts, heart and will on God; after praying, so that what God has given us may remain within us.... It embraces the whole being, body and soul... and everything is consecrated in the name of the Triune God" (Lo spirito della litur-gia. I santi segni, Brescia, 2000, pp. 125-126).
The sign of the Cross and the name of the living God therefore contain the proclamation that gener-ates faith and inspires prayer….
With love and prayers,
Fr. Francis

OLSH parishioners are invited to an ANOINTING MASS AT ST. AEDAN’S
SAT. , JUNE 4th – 12 NOON The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is a beau-tiful gift from God. It is a sacrament that is adminis-tered to a Catholic “who, having reached the age of rea-son, begins to be in danger due to sickness or old age.” It is a sacrament which provides comfort, peace, courage and, if the sick person is unable to make confession, even forgives sin. Whenever new illness develops or first illness relaps-es or worsens, the person may receive the sacrament a further time. It may also be given numerous times in the case of old age or chronic illness based on the pas-toral judgment of the priest. This is not to be confused with what we traditionally refer to as the “Last Rites” which involves a three-part reception of the sacraments of Anointing, Penance and the Holy Eucharist. Light refreshments will be provided in the parish hall immediately following the mass. Please plan on attending this special Mass at Saint Aedan, 23 Reld Drive, Pearl River. “Through this Holy Anointing, may the Lord in His love and mercy help you with the grace of the Holy Spirit. May the Lord who frees you from sin, save you and raise you up.”
