WEEKEND MASS TIMESSaturday: 4:15 p.m.
Sunday: 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.
WEEKDAY MASS TIMESMonday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday:
8:30 a.m.
Consult bulletin for special Holy Day and holiday schedules.
Dear Parishioners and Friends of Our Lady of the Prairie,
I enjoy fresh, warm, out of the oven, baked bread.
The type of bread does not matter…wheat, sourdough,
pumpernickel, hard or soft…it’s all good! Bread seems
to go quickly, and the bread basket on the table never
seems quite big enough. You already know that bread
is made from grain, in particular, wheat. Archaeology
indicates that wheat was first discovered in the southern
Levant (modern day Israel, Palestine, and Jordan) around
the year 9600 BC. From this region, wheat has made its
way around the world and billions of people continue to
break bread and eat it every day.
On Sunday, June 14th we will celebrate the Feast of
Corpus Christi, the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus
Christ. The Lord distributes for us the bread that is his
Body, and he makes himself a gift to us. This is the
greatest gift we can receive and it is available to us in
the most Holy Sacrament of the Eucharist. Jesus
reminds us; “I am the living bread which has come down
from heaven. Anyone who eats this bread will live
forever; and the bread that I shall give is my flesh, for
the life of the world.” (John 6:51) Jesus also says; “This
is the bread which has come down from heaven; it is not
like the bread our ancestors ate: they are dead, but
anyone who eats this bread will live forever.” (John 6:58)
The Jews argued among themselves and asked, “How
can this man give us his flesh to eat? They could not see
that the Lord was referring to his own sacrifice, giving
himself up for the salvation of humanity and providing
us with the real “living” bread that will bring us eternal
life…our escape from death.
The next time you reach for that delicious roll, or
break bread with your family or friends, remember how
much you are loved by Jesus. Come to the table at
Mass, the altar of sacrifice, and share in the gift that was
meant for you.
In Christ,
Deacon Mike
