Thought for Today
Heavenly Father, You are with me always. In prayer, I have confided my deepest fears and apprehen-sions. You know me best. Contin-ue to watch over me and guide me in everything that I say and do.
Dear Parishioners,
I decided that I would recap some of what was said at our Parish Town Meeting this
past weekend. The following questions are not all that were raised, but the ones that we
heard being asked most frequently. Here are some of the questions and concerns that
were raised.
Will we be combined into one parish with Our Lady of Sorrows? A merger is not the plan.
There will be some adjustments in both parishes to accommodate one shared pastor.
The stated goal of the pastorate is to maintain each parish’s identity, while fostering
some common ventures for the benefit of each community. There may be some things,
especially in the area of evangelization, which we will be able to do together that we
could not do alone.
Will our Sunday Mass schedule change as result of having a part time pastor? We do not
foresee any change in the near future. Our parish is blessed by being in close proximity
to Washington D.C., where priests are often looking for a parish, where they can cele-
brate Sunday Masses. We are preparing the schedule of priest-celebrants for the imme-
diate future without proposed changes in the Mass schedule.
What will happen to the rectory under a part-time pastor? This is the hardest question to
answer because we do not have enough information to decide. We do, however, have a
mechanism in place to make such decisions. The finance and facilities committees will
be in on the discussion, as well as the pastoral council and parish corporators.
What will happen to the idea of reconstructing and expanding the parish buildings? The
parish master plan was always going to be implemented in phases. There is no immedi-
ate plan to build a new church, because our church is adequate for our current needs.
The more pressing need is for more gathering, office and storage space. The economic
recovery that we are currently experiencing makes the latter improvements more feasi-
ble. Again, any major building or remodeling will require the participation of parish
committees and parishioners in any planning and implementation.
Will our new deacon, Deacon Herman Wilkins, be shared with Our Lady of Sorrows, our
partner in the Pastorate? No, he will be assigned and employed full time by our parish.
He may, like I have over the years, help out at Our Lady of Sorrows when asked. The
only proviso would be that his assistance there wouldn’t interfere with his duties here.
What will Deacon Herman’s duties be? He will be assuming some of the sacramental work
that I do (baptisms, marriages and funeral rites). He cannot say Mass, hear confessions
or anoint the sick. Deacon Herman will pick up many of my non-sacramental duties.
He will be an ex office member at committees, pastoral council and Corporator
meetings along with Sr. Kass. He will greet and counsel people. He has a wonderful
background in Tribunal work . What we, the current pastoral staff, are excited about is
that he will be able to accomplish things we need to do, but never seem to have the
time to get to.
God bless you, Fr. Joe

As you read this I am on vacation. I wish I had learned forty years ago the seven ways vacations can be beneficial for you. This is for you fellow workaholics: Better physical health: A vacation can help your physical health-the stress of working can take a serious toll on your heart. For both men and women, taking a vacation will lessen the risk of coronary heart disease or heart attacks.
More productivity: The importance of restoration is rooted in our physiology. Human beings aren’t designed to expend energy continuously. Rather, we’re meant to pulse between spending and recovering energy.
Closer family (friends) relationships: Family/friends vacations increase bond-ing, especially when a lot of the activities have to do with talking about memo-ries or even sharing stressful moments together.
Newer perspectives: When you step away from the problems and stresses you’re facing, you’re bound to get a better perspective and come out with a more satisfying answer.
Increased mental power: Our brains don’t have a reserve pool to gather ener-gy and power from. Vacations can help reset your mind.
Lower chance of burn out: One of the key benefits of taking time off work is that you won’t feel all the pressures and discouragement that arise once you begin showing symptoms of a burnout. You come back more creative and pro-ductive.
Improved mental health: One of the main benefits of vacation time is that it can improve your mental health. Feelings of calm arise and relieve the stress, which allow the body and mind to heal in ways that it couldn’t if it were still under pressure.
A new, restored me will see you next weekend!

PARISH NEWS & NEEDS
Bring Home the Sunday Gospel—”Do not let your hearts be troubled.
You have faith in God; have faith also in me.” This is the same invita-
tion he gave to his disciples—and to us. Yet, our hearts are troubled,
what lies ahead for all of us in this lifetime? Where is Jesus in all of
this? He, after all, is God, our Savior, and he was going home to his
Father in heaven to prepare a place for his disciples. Are we any
different from these disciples?
How often have we fooled ourselves into believing that we are in
charge, in control. Sometimes our own hearts are troubled about the
future, about what is going to become of us tomorrow. This gospel
message is one of hope and of how much we are loved and cared for.
Jesus knows what a difficult passage it is for us to believe. For he says
that if his disciples — and us — if they/we cannot believe his words,
look at his actions, the works he has done. Jesus says to us exactly
what he has said to the disciples….”Do not let your hearts be trou-
bled.” That invitation, that commandment could be our daily medita-
tion for the rest of our lives. What is my faith response to this gospel?
In what ways can we relate to the disciples? How has my faith com-
munity been helpful in showing me the path and helping me stay on
it?
Seek and Share—Cultivating Easter Joy—It is our task to honor our
faith by cultivating the joy of Easter throughout the year. How do we
do that? We seek, and we share. Just as the angel instructed the
women to “come and see the place where he lay,” we have to look for
the joy. It won’t always announce itself like the angel sitting on a rock.
We have to open our hearts and eyes to see and feel the joy that is
before us.
Remember the sick of the parish, es-pecially Joyce Webster, Sally Guaragna If you know of a parishioner or family member who needs to be placed on our prayer list please contact the par-ish secretary. *******************************

Marcia Auth the 8:30 a.m. Sunday

ing to share their talents, please

******************************* Saint of the Month
St. Isidore the Farmer St. Isidore, patron saint of farmers, was a simple man who spent his life tilling the fields of a wealthy landown-er. Deeply religious, he attended daily Mass before beginning his work in the fields. Known to pray as he worked, his fellow tenant farmers claimed that angels plowed the field so he would have more time for prayer. He was a generous man who shared what little he had with the poor.
