Are you familiar with the Liturgy of the Hours? The Church provides daily prayers which mark the hours of each day and sanctify the day with prayer. Also known as the Divine Office, these hours include the Office of Readings, Morning Prayer, Daytime Prayer, Evening Prayer and Night Prayer. Over a cycle of 4 weeks, we pray a majority of the 150 psalms and numerous other passages from Sacred Scripture which can be meditated and reflected upon throughout the day.
As a priest, I make a promise to pray these hours throughout the day for the good of the whole Church, the Body of Christ. However, the Liturgy of the Hours can be prayed by anyone. In fact, it is highly recommended as a source of spiritual nourishment for all of the Baptized. The prayer of Simeon that we heard in today’s Gospel is incorporated into the Night Prayer and is recited every night.
It begins with a beautiful antiphon: Protect us, Lord, as we stay awake; watch over us as we sleep, that awake, we may keep watch with Christ, and asleep, rest in his peace. Then we say the Canticle of Simeon: “Lord, now you let your servant go in peace; your word has been fulfilled: my own eyes have seen the salvation which you have prepared in the sight of every people: a light to reveal you to the nations and the glory of your people Israel.” This a beautiful way to end your day and enter the night of rest.
I have discovered the Liturgy of the Hours to be an indispensable tool to immerse myself in the Sacred Scriptures. I would love the opportunity to teach and share the spiritual riches of the Liturgy of the Hours. Would you be interested in learning more? If so, please let me know. I would love to organize an opportunity during Lent.
Have a wonderful week!
Fr. Keith

P. Keith

Donation of Altar Flowers Flowers beautify the sacred space of our church and are a
gift to God and those who attend our Masses. Many people have special days in the year which they
commemorate. Flowers on the altar of Our Lady of Mercy Church can fittingly mark anniversaries, the birth of a child, marriage, baptism or death, or may be used as an expression
of joy of thanksgiving at any time. We are trying something new for our parish. We will begin
with a flower donation once a month. When flowers are given in thanksgiving or as a memorial, an announcement
will be made at all weekend masses noting the memorial or occasion for the flowers. Currently, the suggested donation
for Altar Flowers is $40.
If you would like to donate flowers, please contact the parish office today 610-252-7381 to reserve your date.

Due to the increased cases of influenza in our area, the Bishop has suspended the Exchange of Peace and the Reception of Holy Communion from the Chalice in all Churches of the Diocese of Allentown until further notice. It is hoped that this will
reduce the spread of these viruses. In other words, during the mass, this introduction will be omitted, “Let us offer one another a sign of Christ’s peace.” We will move directly to sing the Lamb of God. We will only distribute Holy Communion under the Sacred Host. As a reminder, the Sacred Host contains the “whole Christ” -Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Christ.
Thank you for your adjustment at this time.
The Parish Nurses will be doing Blood Pressure Screenings Sat. Feb.1st 4-4:30pm and Sun.Feb.2nd 7:30-8am.
In response to the serious earthquake in Puerto Rico, Bishop Schlert has asked each parish in the Diocese of Allentown to take up a collection. The funds contributed will be forwarded to Catholic Relief Services, & these will be administered by them. Our Lady of Mercy will have the Puerto Rico Relief Collection February 15th. & 16th.
