!Dear family,!!
During our Lenten journey we kept hearing the antiphon “If today you hear his voice, harden not your hearts.” Lent, as it always is, was an invitation to be open to the construction we call conversion by the Holy Spirit. During Easter, similarly, our task is to continue to allow the power and joy of The Resurrection to seep into our hearts and minds. Positively, this means that we accept the full life that God intends for us by the resurrection of his Son. Negatively, this means avoiding or uprooting all those things which cause the Holy Spirit to be stifled in us. In today’s Gospel, Jesus talks about how we are all called to bear fruit in our lives by the grace we are given through Him. The readings give us a few pitfalls we can avoid in living the Resurrection. Firstly, when we become lazy and only take from God’s graces, then we are not doing our job. We were mean to pass on the joy and faith we know and experience, and this means sharing it with others. It also, means that we cannot be passive about receiving the sacraments, we are to share our joy with others and radiate it by our actions. Secondly, we can stunt our spiritual growth by exclusively shunning others. At first, because of his reputation, Paul was not accepted by the apostles and disciples, but thank God they did not allow their fear to have the last word, because St. Paul turned out to be a powerful preacher and witness to the Gospel, down to giving his very life out of the love he has for Jesus. Let us be fruitful bearers of God’s joy and truth, in this way we proclaim that Christ is risen, which is what He expects us to do!!!
