Interview with Chris Puglia
Where are you from? Townsend, MA Where did you go to grammar school? Country Day school of the Holy Union in Groton What high school did you go to? St. John’s in Shrewsbury Massachusetts Where'd you go to college? Northeastern University. What did you study? Electrical and Computer Engineering. What are you doing now? I am going to be entering formation with the Oblates of the Virgin Mary on the 25th. I will be entering as a postulant, taking philosophy classes, and beginning the formation process; living community live. Formation for what? Either priest or religious brother. Currently I am pointing toward priesthood but I think that is an ongoing discernment that is going to occur. They have both their brothers and their priests take philosophy classes so it will be more of a thing to determine when it comes time for ordination. Where are the Oblates? In the US they are in 5 states and they are in 8 or 9 countries throughout the world. They were founded in Italy in the 19th Century and have since spread. Here in Boston they are at St. Clements Eucharistic Shrine, St. Joseph Chapel in the Prudential and they run St. Joseph retreat house. This is amazing. Either way, priest or brother, this is “religious life” that you are entering and it is a dramatic sign! You are beginning your life of poverty for example. What does that mean? The thing I most look forward to is the trust in the Lord
that needs to exist and flow from that. You’re living not on your own power of earning. You’re relying on the generosity of others and trust in God’s providence in your life. What is the charism of your order? The charism of the Oblates is preaching the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius, offering retreats, and spiritual direction. I can’t express how amazing this is. What would you like to say to the people of
Our Lady of Grace in whose parish your elementary education took place and the people of St. John’s where you received your First Communion and Confirmation? Well, I was baptized at St. Joseph’s in Pepperell, so it is like it all one. Yes, a message of thanksgiving for all their prayers, growing up, daily mass and Sunday Mass. Definitely their joyful witness to living the Christian life. It was a great encouragement and continues to be a great encouragement for me. I would also ask for continued prayers for myself and my brother Oblates and for all those discerning calls to the religious life and the priesthood. Can we visit you? Absolutely. Come down to St. Clements any time. I’ll be there. The parking is a little tough. There is perpetual eucharistic adoration and it is a great place to make a visit. I would be happy to meet you and we can hang out. Where is St. Clement’s Shrine? It’s on Boylston St. in Boston about halfway between Fenway Park and the Prudential Center. God bless you Chris. You are a praise of God’s glory.

In 1996 Pope John Paul II said, "I urge priests, religious and lay people to continue and
redouble their efforts to teach the younger generations the meaning and value of Eucharistic
Adoration. How will young people be able to know the Lord if they are not introduced to the
mystery of His presence?"
Earlier this year, Brittany Greer and other parents of preschool age children have requested a
“Family Eucharistic Adoration” primarily for their young children that lasts typically around
20 - 30 minutes.

The plans for the parish picnic are underway. Here are the
plans so far. We are going to have one Mass on Sunday, September 22nd
in place of the usual Mass schedule. This will mean that the three Masses that would have otherwise taken place on the 22nd will be replaced by one 11:30 a.m. Mass
at St. Joseph's. There will be no 7:30 a.m. or 11:30 a.m. at St. James for that
Sunday only and the 9:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's will move to 11:30 a.m. The Saturday 4 PM Mass will still be held.
This will help us all "get together" Some of our musicians will be playing music.
We are getting some games together and looking for a bouncy house. The Knights of Columbus are going to "flip burgers"
Mrs. Pat Buckjune is helping to coordinate. If you would like to help, please contact her.
Families who would like to come and run games, such as corn hole, ladder ball, tug of war,
sack races, that would be great. Families, if you have confirmation youth who are involved with the games,
that can count as CBO's.
We have a lot of space all around the campus in Pepperell so we can have a lot of things going on.
Does anyone have a tent we could use? Big and/or small? Does anyone juggle?
Does anyone know a farm that would want to set up a petting zoo? Let Pat know. Email her at [email protected]

Sunday Reading Reflection:
We know that the narrow way is the only way and there are lots of ways to go wrong. It is scary but at the same time if you really think about it we should not be scared. All the bad ways are hard, and the one good road is easy. Following Christ means we
have real friendships that can last for eternity. All other ways are void of real friendship and lead to eternal isolation.
Being Holy is something that we can figure out and know. Being a sinner is confusing and at every step opens onto myriad possibilities. Being Holy means friendship with God. Alternatives roads? In opposition to the source of all being itself. Holiness is challenge with meaning and reward beyond all telling. All other paths are even more challenging resulting in death that knows no end. Holiness is the only goal Failure to attain holiness: the ultimate human tragedy. Holiness is freedom Sin, addiction, slavery Holiness is happiness Sinfulness is hell on earth and eternal hell in the life to come. Holiness builds up those around you and the world. Sinfulness destroys the good around you to your own detriment. Holiness is hard but infinitely easier that any and all alternatives. Sinfulness is stupid, boring, and such a broken record. Holiness is attainable for everyone. Sinfulness is attainable for all of us.
Be a saint today.
