OUR HOUSE Springwood State High School Newsletter PAGE 1 OCTOBER 2021 ISSUE 2.1 Our Year 11 and 12 senior students are now well into their exam block. Senior students have been sent home with permission forms to be signed if they wish to stay home or return home after exams. These forms need to be returned to administration asap. Supervision will be available for students wishing to engage in independent study. Term 4 is always a busy time of the year for students, families and our school. We started the term off with our PBL Rewards Day with fun times spent at bowling. It was such a lovely way to recognise excellence in student effort and behaviour. After being cancelled for COVID restrictions several times, it was terrific to be able to go. Students are to be commended on their manners, behaviour and dress and appearance on the day, as well as their bowling skills! We are looking forward to celebrating more of our students’ successes over the coming weeks as we head into our Graduation and Awards Ceremonies. Our Personalised Learning Plan (PLP) meetings and parent and teacher interviews are being held next week. We are excited to be building on our Culture of Care and focus on student effort and voice. Our PLP meetings are being run with all Year 7 and 11 students and their parents. Each family are to book an appointment to jointly set goals for the their child’s learning with our teachers. In 2022, we will be holding PLP meetings for all students. Parent teacher interviews are available during PLP day for students in Years 8, 9 and 10. Our normal SOBS booking system will be used for both PLP meetings and interviews. Parents will have received an email with the information letter on Friday. Please note, students are learning from home on this day, 9 November 2021. Students at school will be placed in tutorial groups to work on their learning from home materials. Our strategic planning for 2021 is well underway with a focus on progressing our 21st century teaching and learning next year. Our commitment to Fullan’s New Pedagogies for Deep Learning as our educational research base is providing a guiding lens to our next steps in making learning engaging for our students. We are committed to listening to and catering for our students’ interests, abilities, voice and choices to design curriculum programs students are interested in. More exciting announcements about advancements in our deep learning, inquiry focused curriculum, and teaching and learning will be announced by our students at our Awards Ceremony. Enrolment Interviews are now being held for Year 7 in 2022. If you haven't already enrolled your current Year 6 student into Year 7 at SSHS for next year, please contact our Enrolments Officer - Lisa - via email - [email protected] to confirm your details. Students are still required to wear masks in classrooms unless seated or can maintain 1.5m to physical distance. These are government directions and we are obliged to follow the directives of the Department. We thank parents/carers for ensuring your child has a mask each day for school. All students received their SSHS fabric mask last term. Surgical masks are available from the student reception as back-up option for $1.00. We are excited to release our school video this week. Keep an eye on Facebook and our website as we showcase our students and the wonderful programs on offer in our school. We are looking forward to seeing as many families as possible on the 9th of November and then again at Graduation and Awards Ceremonies on the 19th of November. - Ms Melanie Harth
