(Private Archive Edition) Documents 600225 (misdated 17 April 1958) Medici Arts MM 037-2 (misdated 17 April 1958)
Recorded broadcast from Konserthuset. On Medici Arts and Documents incorrect dating: Lotte Klemperer´s diary for 17 April 1958 in Stockholm shows Klemperer conducted Bach, Suite No. 3, Hindemith, Nobilissima Visione and Brahms, Symphony No. 4 (IMG RSPO 1000-2), with in a second program (23/25) featuring Mozart, Symphony No. 29 and Bruckner, Symphony No. 7.
OK conducted the ‘Eroica’ in Stockholm, in 1965, on 19 & 21 May (together with the Coriolan Overture and Symphony No 2): the Stockholm Philharmonic feted him on his 80th birthday and made him an honorary member (see Beaumont, Klemperer Briefe, p. 478). Furthermore, the radio broadcast recording was done in stereo, which would seem to rule out a 1958 dating on purely technical grounds.

Beethoven Cycle 1970 at the Royal Festival Hall, filmed by the BBC.
Recorded in Kingsway Hall, 5 & 6 October and 17 December 1955 (all sessions were recorded in both mono and stereo). In the 3rd movement, the mono version (on EMI CDM 763868 and Naxos) has a wrong edit at 3:57 in the Presto repeat after the first Assai meno presto: bars 303/4 and 319/320 feature forte instead of piano – also
timpani in 473 & 474 (6:13) ignore final eighth and continue trill throughout (first occurrence at 2:51 – bars 213 & 214 okay) Seems like a take of the first presto was inserted here starting at bar 304 with upbeat: as the simultaneous stereo recording shows unmistakenly, OK plays these bars piano.

Recorded prior to 16 June 1951, Vienna. According to Lotte Klemperer, the final two movements are conducted not by Klemperer but by Herbert Haefner, whom VOX asked to complete the recording after Klemperer had left for a concert tour in Greece with the Vienna Philharmonic. When VOX then issued the composite recording under Klemperer’s name and without his knowledge, Klemperer broke off with VOX; his letter of protest (28 Nov.1951) reveals that Klemperer already then had intended to use his own “special ending” to the symphony (Beaumont, Klemperer Briefe, pp. 369-70).

Recorded in Studio No.1, Abbey Road, 5, 6 & 7 April 1968. According to Lotte Klemperer, sessions were broken off and the recording never completed as Klemperer “felt very tired” and anyway “all along did not want to do” Don Quixote, which he “disliked very much”, but had “sort of been pushed into it by EMI and the Barenboims.” In 1995 EMI issued the single take they had recorded on 9 April with the same forces under Sir Adrian Boult with “the inevitable handful of significanr flaws and a missing first bar” corrected with “patches, none longer than five seconds, from the preceding Klemperer takes” (EMI CDC 555528-2, booklet notes).
