Where did that time go? As the season ends, we still have the dilemma of not having a full Executive Committee so my tenure as President of the club continues into 2019. It has been a challenge this year with only having four members on the committee, fortunately we do have a club full of volunteers that made things run smoothly this year. We managed to run all tournaments and special jitneys, even though we had to reschedule some because of the extreme weather. Some of the highlights of 2018: • The Oshawa Gold Cup celebrated it’s 80 th Anniversary this year. As always, a really great day. We thank Alan Steffen for his generous donation as a sponsor which increased the prizes for this event which drew a full quota of bowlers. • We continued to showcase the Ladies Luncheon. This event is starting to be the main bowling event for the ladies as the Gold Cup is for the men. We want to continue to improve this event, so if anybody has any good ideas, let me know. A special thanks to all those members who came out and volunteered their time to make the club a better place for all to enjoy. Don’t forget that we do have Winter Activities (Cards, Dominoes etc) going on in the clubroom through the winter. We look forward to seeing you all on the greens in 2018! REMEMBER WHEN! - Thoughts & Comments from the mid 50’s
• Did you hear that the Post Office is thinking about charging 7c just to mail a letter?
• If they raise the minimum wage to $1.00, nobody will be able to hire outside help at the store!
• When I first started driving, who would have thought that gas would someday be 25c a gallon? I guess we would be better off leaving the car in the garage.
• I never thought I’d see the day all our kitchen appliances would be electric. They’re even making electric typewriters now!
• Its too bad things are so tough nowadays. I see where a few married women are having to work to make ends meet.
• I’m afraid the new Volkswagen car will open the door to a whole lot of foreign business.
• Thank goodness I won’t live to see the day when the government takes half our income in taxes. I sometimes wonder of we are electing the best people for government.
• The “Fast Food” Restaurant is convenient for a quick meal, but I seriously doubt they will ever catch on.
• If they think I will pay 30c for a haircut, forget it!
• There is no sense in taking short trips anymore for a weekend. It costs nearly $2.00 a night to stay in a hotel
Special thanks to Priscilla Downs for this submission.
