Many people are different and so many people will celebrate this holiday in different ways. One of those ways as most of us might know may be to get together with your family, eat really good food and give thanks. Another way might be to stay at home and just watch movies with your family or maybe you don’t even celebrate. Book Review: House of Salt and Sorrow

By : Ryann Kremer Goehner

Issue Question: What is your Favorite Book? By : Longfellow Staff (More to come next month…..)

Mama Day, Bailey's Cafe, Men of Brewster Place, Women of Brewster Place all by Gloria Naylor. All in the same universe, a magical realism, AMAZING points of view: Mama Day is told from four different perspectives, including a group pov. Seeing the same event from three different POVs is such a great way to see how differently we all experience the world. Same with Women/Men of Brewster Place. Seeing the other side of the story is so powerful. Senora Salazar

My favorite books of all time are the Harry Potter series. I read them fresh off the press in the 90's. 20 years later it is neat that a new generation of kids have picked them up (including my own), and they are still as enjoyable as when they were first written! Mrs. Myers

Dread Nation by Justina Ireland is one of my favorite middle school books right now. I love the genre mash-up since it’s part historical fiction, part zombie apocalypse, and part fantasy. Jane is a fierce, kind, brave lead charac-ter. You will love her the moment you meet her! (There is a second book, too!) Neal Shusterman’s Arc of a Scythe books are amazing! There are three books: Scythe, Thunderhead, and The Toll. This story takes place in the future where humans have perfected living and cannot die anymore. Two teens be-come scythes which is a job that involves killing people to control the population. You seriously cannot put these books down. They are amazing! Eccles

An eerie, fairy-tale meets ghost story retelling of the Twelve Dancing Princesses. It follows Annaleigh, daughter of a popular lord, and her life in a sheltered house by the sea, with her sisters, father, and stepmother. She once had twelve sisters, but now she only has eight, after four of them tragically passed away. Rumors spread that her family is cursed by the gods, and after Annaleigh experiences a series of ghostly visions, she starts to believe it. As the visitations increase, Annaleigh be-gins to suspect that her sister's deaths were not accidents. Her sisters have been sneaking out every night to attend mysterious balls, dancing until dawn. Annaleigh isn't sure whether to stop or join them, because who, or what, are they really dancing with? House of Salt and Sorrows is an awe-some, twisty retelling of a popular book, per-fect for fans of The Hazel Wood or anyone

who is into fantasy meets fairy tale. There is plenty of suspense to keep you hooked, but plenty of gossamer skirts and romance to keep all kinds of readers happy. I enjoyed this book a lot, and if you read, I hope you like it too!

My favorite book would probably be A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving. It's bizarre and funny and helps you focus on the larger path of life instead of getting lost in current troubles. Frau Cook

A recent good read for me was Ghost Boys by Jewell Parker Rhodes. It has an interesting narration between the living and the to connect the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s to events experienced today. The anger expressed by the main character is real and righteous with a message of friendship and kindness offered as a place to push healing forward. Mrs. Maranan

Music Review: Pop, Punk, Rock n Roll, Japanese, and Indie By : Ruby Bohl

For me, and probably a lot of other people, music is a big part of my life. Over this summer and the beginning of school, I have found a lot of good songs, and artists to listen to. For the first genre, I have pop music. Pop mu-sic is basically the type of music younger audiences listen to. On October 30th, 2020, Ariana Grande re-leased her album Positions, and it got a lot of atten-tion. I really recommend this album to people who like pop music, and just Ariana in general. My favorite songs from the album are “Positions,” and “34+35.’ I don't keep up with pop music much, but I know that she released that album and lots of people like it, so you should probably go check it out! The next genre is punk. The artists I recom-mend from this genre are Misfits, Green Day, The Ad-verts, Destroy Boys, and also Palaye Royale. I person-ally love all of these bands and all their music is pretty good. Palaye Royale is fairly new, and I love all their music. I recommend all of it honestly. The lead singer is probably my favorite out of the band, and I love his singing voice. The same goes for The Adverts and De-stroy Boys. I love all of their music and the lead singer is really good. All the other bands are a bit older and more from the 90’s. My favorite songs by Misfits are “Skulls,” “London Dungeon,” and “Dig up Her Bones.” I don't listen to Green Day much, but the al-bum Kerplunk! Is really good. For rock n roll, all the artists from this genre are a bit, if you want to call it “emo” bands. My Chemical Romance and Fall Out Boy are really good in my opinion. My favorite album from MCR is Three

Cheers for Sweet Revenge, but I also like The Black Parade too. For FOB, I like From Under the Cork Tree. The particular songs I like are “Dance, Dance” and “Sugar, we’re Goin Down.” Pretty popular songs by them too. (P.S. These are some of Mrs. Engel’s favorites as well). The next genre is Japanese music. I do listen to a lot of anime music as well, and the top ones that I have found are based around Hunter x Hunter, but others too. I like “Fukashigi no Carte,” “Just Awake,” and “HUNTING FOR YOUR DREAM!” They are pretty good in my opinion, and if you like stuff like that, you could go check it out for yourself, or even watch the animes. I love anime so I like the songs a lot too! Lastly, soft indie. Clairo, Men I Trust, and Girl in Red are all amazing artists. I have listened to these for about two years now actually, and they are really good songs for people who like indie music. For Clairo, she has “Sofia,” “4ever,” “Pretty girl. and the list goes on. Girl in Red has a lot of good songs. Men I Trust are really good, and I like their most popular song, “Show me How.” Those are really all the songs I have found during the passing time of Covid. If you like any of these genres of music, I think you should definitely check these out!

Rocket baby bakery is an amazing place to get some breakfast on a weekend when you want some time to unwind. They offer from your bakery favorites like muffins, croissants, and pastries. (sorry no donuts that's what Cranky’s is here for).

They also serve breakfast sandwiches

for you to eat. Plus the bakery is next to a “park” in which you can sit in and eat your food.

After breakfast they do serve pizza for

lunch. Plus if you need some bread for something, they have almost every kind of bread for your cooking and baking needs.

I seriously recommend that you check

out Rocket Baby!

Christmas is a holiday in December and it is fun. The celebration of Christmas started in Rome about 336. Many Christ-mas traditions, such as decorating trees, started in Germany.

Toilet Paper Snowman- Want to give a friend a fun gift during quaran-tine or want to help a neighbor when they are short on toilet paper? You’re going to need 3 rolls of toilet paper, some fabric (3/4 of a yard for all 3 rolls or 18 by 18 in. for each roll), two, 3-4 inch sticks, buttons (and other decora-tions for your snowman)). To start, lay your square of fabric flat on a surface, put your toilet paper roll right in the middle. After, unroll the toilet paper and then crumple up the toilet paper as you re-roll it. This will make your snowman round. Next take a corner of the fabric and push it in the middle of your roll, use a pencil to push it down. Then repeat for all three corners. After, put the twig in the middle of the roll. Then re-peat for the second roll, and place it in the middle, on top of the stick of the first roll. Next repeat again for the third roll but this time don’t put a stick in the middle. Then stack, and decorate! Add a face, buttons, a car-rot nose, maybe even a corn cob pipe. Now you have a fun toilet paper snowman (you can also make Grinch, Santa and other toilet paper fun)! Idea from It’s al-ways autumn Octo-ber 30th, 2019

Candy Cane Bath Salts

Want something to make that seasonal, fun, and relaxing, try these candy cane bath salts. You will need ¾ cup Epsom salt, about 10 drops of essential oil (whatever scent you want (maybe even a peppermint)), red food coloring, a clear jar or container to put the salts in, and six bowls.

Start by putting ⅛ cup of Epsom salt

into each bowl. Then add 1-3 drops of essen-tial oil into each bowl (to your liking) then stir with a spoon or fork. In half the bowls add red food coloring to color to your desire, leave the other three bowls plain. Next pour the red mixture into the bottom, then shake to even it out. After, repeat with white and then red and so on. Now you have cool, fun, winter bath salts. Idea inspired Dream A Little Bigger October 10, 2015

Sugar Cookie Recipe

Hello Longfellow! As Christmas arrives I would like to share this sugar cookie reci-pe. This is my favorite sugar cookie recipe ever! It's the per-fect Christmas cookie and is great for decorating! In a separate bowl, combine baking powder and salt with flour and add a little at a time to the wet ingredients in the mixer. 5. Video Game Review: Mario 3D All Stars

By: Cohen Brown

A newer game celebrating Mario’s 35 anniver-sary, Super Mario 3D All Stars is a combination of three beloved 3D Mario Games, including Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy.

Super Mario 64 is Mario's first 3D adventure. The game was originally created for the Nintendo 64 in 1996. This was an amazing entry for long-time Mario fans and new fans alike. The game was one of the first 3D Nintendo games. Super Mario Sunshine was released in 2002. In this game, Mario and Princess Peach take a vacation to the beautiful Isle Delfino. However when they arrive they are met by a horrible surprise! Someone has van-dalized their plane's runway. What's worse, the criminal is disguised as Mario! The police arrest Mario thinking he has committed these crimes. Mario is sentenced to cleaning the entirety of Isle Delfino as his punishment for a crime he did not commit. The only question now is who is responsible for the crimes of Isle Delfino? Super Mario Sunshine was originally created for the GameCube . Last but not least, we have Super Mario Galaxy created in 2007 for the Nintendo Wii. The mushroom kingdom is celebrating the star festival, an event that happens every hundred years when a special comet

flies past the Mushroom Kingdom. With the passing of the comet comes a beautiful shower of starbits, glowing piece pieces of the stars. As Mario happily strolls into the town square on the way to Peach's Castle, a cannonball flies through the air smashing a building. The happy star festival is now in panic as more cannonballs rain from the sky, every toad hit by these cannon balls is transformed in crystal. Amidst the terror Mario rushes to Peach's Castle to protect the princess. Bowser then appears ordering his fleet to carve the castle out of the ground and fly it away. Mario jumps on the bridge just in time as the castle flies away, with Mario tagging along for the ride to space. As Mario begins to head towards the castle doors, one of Bowser's minions knocks Mario off the castle sending him flying through space! What will become of Mario!? Will he ever be able to save the princess from her fate?! These games are all included in Super Mario 3D all stars for the Nintendo Switch If this sounds interesting to you then I highly recom-mend Super Mario All Stars 3D for you. The game cost $59.99 and is available until sometime in March 2021. This has been my video game review for this month. Thanks For Reading!!! Cohen out!
