We currently have in excess of 100 preps enrolled and anticipate that the number may increase slightly as the year progresses. We have scheduled school tours every fortnight on Tuesdays at 9.30am and frequently have requests to conduct tours on other days and times. Whilst there is a strong demand for enrolments in the school, we are keen to maintain our current school population and do not wish to encroach on existing play space with additional classrooms, therefore I am attempting to balance the number of children exiting the school with a similar number of new enrolments. We recently changed the timing for the distribution of information on fees for the subsequent year; this was done in Term 4 of 2013 for the 2014 school year. All the neighbouring schools have a similar time frame and we have found that the timing streamlined our processes and proved to be more efficient and effective on all levels. Therefore our School Council has determined that we will be distributing information regarding fees for the 2015 school year in the second week of Term 4 which will be the week beginning Monday 13 October. The intention is to invite parents to make the relevant payments during Term 4 which means that our school year can commence very calmly and orderly. Many grade levels have activities and special events quite early on in the year, so if payments have been made and relevant forms signed accordingly it will help avoid headaches and streamline procedures noticeably. One new component to the fees will be a levy for ICT. All schools are finding that it is essential to employ a local technician to support the hardware, software, maintenance and connectivity issues. Hampton employs two local technicians who work a total of 3.5 days which supplements the departmental technician’s hours of 12.3 hours. The challenge in managing ICT is the speed with which hardware becomes obsolete, software becomes outdated, older buildings with solid brick walls that are not designed for modern technologies and easy connectivity and quite simply the cost of maintenance and staying abreast of the change. Unfortunately the allocation provided by the department is inadequate. Our preliminary budget for 2015 indicates that the levy will cover less than half the costs associated with ICT for our school with 650 students. Buildings and Grounds Update This week we hope to receive the detailed drawings for the new basketball court area. The Buildings and Grounds Committee and School Council will carefully review and potentially fine tune the drawings and then we will be in a position to call for selective tenderers for the work. Sporting Excellence
Last weekend we had three very enthusiastic teams competing in the National Championships in Aerobics
and Dance at the Gold Coast in Queensland over a three day period. We had a large entourage of supporters
including parents, grandparents, aunts, siblings and friends and their support and presence was felt at the
venues. The two aerobics teams were ably coached by Tracey Vaughan who devoted much time to
preparation and training. We were very fortunate to have the dance team coached by Sim Paul one of the
teaching staff at Hampton who has extensive knowledge and skill in Bollywood dancing. Our three teams all
performed to the best of their ability on the day. How lovely is it to be able to note this! Whilst the children
were understandably quite nervous and perhaps a little apprehensive prior to the performance time, they all
rose to the challenge once they hit the stage area in the cavernous Gold Coast Convention Centre; from the
audience perspective we could see the adrenalin rising as they commenced performing.
The opportunity to perform with thousands of other primary and secondary students from all over the country
was a special and memorable one for our children and those watching! I was the very proud principal
watching all of children intensely focus, contain their nerves, concentrate on the music and ensure they were
in synchrony throughout their performance. There were some challenges: Sarah Thompson started the
competition with an injured and very sore knee – there were frozen peas applied before and after her
performances, Alyssa Karamitos was inadvertently flicked in the eye during her performance but managed to
maintain her focus, smile and stay in formation – not missing a trick!
I extend my sincere congratulations to all of our competitors who represented Hampton with distinction.

place and are the Australian champions in the Primary Fitness category.

medal in the Primary Stage 1 – Open category.

Dance category. The coach - Sim Paul brought meticulous attention to detail with costumes, makeup, hair,
and authentic and culturally respectful choreography which paid dividends! Sim was also very encouraging
and generous with her time in supporting and coaching the girls. Thank you Sim!
I hope the girls and families involved found the competition rewarding and enjoyable. I was delighted to be
part of this very special experience.

During the last few weeks, committees, School Council, staff and small discussion groups have reviewed

Music News
Wicked excursion (optional) will occur on August 20th. We will gather
in the school hall at 11.30 to eat an early lunch and then depart at 12
sharp. Parents should meet in the school hall. If you have purchased a
ticket for your child but have not completed the bus form, your
child cannot board the bus and the ticket will be forfeited. We
anticipate our return to school at 4.45 but this depends on traffic.
Year 5/6 parents, please check the blog for costume requirements for
your child and please contact the class teacher if you are not able to
source the appropriate costume. Please go ‘op shopping’ rather than
buying from a retail store if at all possible! Dates for the CD recording
and still photo shoot are in the last week of this term. CD Monday 15th
September and photo shoot Thursday 18th
September.
Please contact me if your child will be absent that week or first week
back of term 4. Our rehearsal will run all day on October 13th. Any
student who is absent on the day cannot go on that night due to OHS
issues.
Year 3 violin students will need to decide whether to continue in term
4 or to finish up the program A note will go home shortly.
