Hilary Gans South Bayside Waste Management Authority 610 Elm Street, Suite 202 San Carlos, CA 94070
Dear Mr. Gans,
Anaergia is pleased to submit a budgetary proposal for Anaergia’s integrated solid waste processing line that recovers
organics from solid waste at the SBWMA MRF to produce a clean slurry for transport to offsite anaerobic digestion
facilities. We have been pleased to collaborate your Team on a successful Organics Extrusion (OREX) Test Press trial
that demonstrated the ability to exceed threshold requirements for total diversion in a future full-scale solid waste
processing line with organics recovery. The proposed system herein serves as a stepping stone to the larger project
allowing SBWMA to collaborate with EBMUD and potentially other wastewater treatment plants by producing an
expected 50 TPD of organic cake that when converted into a polished slurry generates roughly 25,000 gal/day or 5
tanker truck loads. This system includes a bag opener, OREX, and polisher that are sized for the future full-scale
system to ensure reuse of this equipment in the future.
The proposed state of the art processing line will allow SBWMA to:
• Maximize diversion and substantially reduce carbon footprint by recoverying over 90% of putriceable
organics from the solid waste stream to feed to an anaerobic digestion to produce carbon negative
renewable natural gas.
• Maximize flexibility in outlets by producing an organics stream that can go to wastewater treatment
plants, merchant anaerobic digester facilities, or compost facilities as a cake or slurry.
• Deliver a turnkey processing line fully delivered and installed by Anaeriga incorporating experience from
installations on four continents.
• The ability to process waste with any contamination level.
• Operate the system to establish outlets, comfort, and prove the diversion approach to derisk a future
full-scale system needed for complaince with organics diversion regulations.
We are confident that the processing line proposed herein will support SBWMA in achieving diversion goals and meet SBWMA needs for future organics diversion compliance. Anaergia is committed to serving SBWMA needs and fully supporting the development of organics outlets and ultimately a robust and cost effective organics diversion solution.
I look forward to discussing this further and collaborating on the next step of this flagship project. Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
Regards,
Yaniv Scherson Managing Director

Organics diversion goals are driving the waste industry to prevent
organic material from reaching landfills, making the organic
recovery and processing line an integral component of a truly
modern mixed waste processing facility. Unlike equipment that
simply removes contaminants from already seperated waste
streams, the processing line described herein recovers the
putrescible organic waste that is entrained in mixed waste
streams.
Designed in collaboration with SBWMA to process up to 20 TPH
(depending upon material composition, density, moisture and
other factors), the processing line will maximize extraction of
putrescible organic material from mixed solid waste streams
delivered to SBWMA’s facility. The scope of work, scope of supply are included in the Attachments.

Benefits of Anaergia’s Organics Recovery Lines
• Maximize recovery of putrescible organicwaste from the municipal waste stream.
The wet organic fraction extracted by the OREX contains a small
fraction of physical contaminants including glass, stones, grit,
plastic, plastic film, paper and other floatable fibers (typically <3%
by dry weight). Removal of these contaminants is important if the
wet fraction is to be used for anaerobic digestion since
contaminants build up in anaerobic digesters over time as either
settled material or as a floating layer, and cause wear to
downstream equipment. Contaminant removal is helpful to create
a clean digestate product that can be composted or used for direct
land application.
The first step of Anaergia’s Organics Polishing System (OPS)
removes low density inert or slowly degradable contaminants such
as plastics, paper and other fibers by centrifugal force where a
high speed rotating cylindrical screen ejects organics radially
outward contaminants are retained.
The second step will separate and wash high density contaminants
such as fine glass and grit by hydrodynamic force, a process which
requires wash/dilution water addition. Grit removal is important
as it can not only damage downstream equipment, it also
accumulates in digesters. In addition to improving plant processes, removal of physical contaminants prepares
digestate for beneficial reuse.
