42nd Annual Honor Cord Banquet

The first annual Honor Cord Banquet was held in 1981. The inspiration for this event originated with Jim Perkin, Vice Principal, who thought there should be a special way to celebrate honor graduates for their high academic achievements. He came up with the idea of a dinner arranged especially for them. With the help of many staff members, he organized what was then called the Honor Cord’s Banquet. They transformed the cafeteria into a setting of elegance for this occasion. The passing of the years has seen the tradition continue with an even more elegant atmosphere. Each year our top academic graduates gather together one evening in the spring to be recognized at a dinner, which features a motivational speaker and staff who host and serve a festive meal. Parents and staff together continue this tradition in style. Recently, we added another tradition to the Honor Cord Banquet. The speaker will be an OCHS graduate. Our hope is that our students do well in life and will want to come back to the OCHS Honor Cord Banquet and share some words of wisdom, inspiration and motivation. Honor Cord graduates, please keep this in mind when you achieve the success we all want for you. We’ll be calling you, or better yet, you call us!

Taylor was born in Oregon City and attended Gaffney Lane Elementary School, Gardiner Middle School and Oregon City High School. Taylor enjoyed participating in as many activities as she could fit into her schedule. She played three varsity sports and was actively involved in National Honor Society and Student Council. Some highlights from Taylor’s time at OCHS were, receiving 12 varsity letters, winning a basketball State Championship in 2009, being voted Three Rivers League Player of the Year and First Team All-State Shortstop in 2010, joining the football team her senior year, MC’ing OCHS assemblies and being honored as the Prom Queen for the class of 2010. Taylor loved every minute of her time at OCHS and was grateful for all of the friendships, memories and opportunities it provided her, including the opportunity to play college basketball. She attended Vanguard University of Southern California on a full ride basketball scholarship and earned her degree in Biological Sciences. While at Vanguard, Taylor discovered her love for science and deepened her faith in God. Some highlights from her time at Vanguard were becoming a First Team All American Point Guard, setting the school record for the number of triple-doubles in a season, being honored as the Biology Student of the Year for the class of 2014, and delivering the commencement speech for her graduation ceremony. After graduation, Taylor spent two years living in Tanzania, Africa as a teacher and missionary. She then returned back to Oregon where she earned her Master’s in Education from George Fox University. Taylor has spent the past five years teaching science and coaching basketball at Woodburn High School. Currently, Taylor is married and living with her wonderful husband Josh in Beaverton. During Covid, Taylor and Josh helped to plant a church. They are actively involved in their community and with their families. Josh and Taylor have many big dreams together and are excited for what the future holds!
