Following Criteria:

• Failed one or more CORE classes in middle school

• High rate of mobility• Did not meet state

benchmarks in reading and/or math

• Has D grades in classes• Struggling due to

extenuating circumstances

• Transitional class helps students learn crucial skills to do their best in school/life

• Focuses on reading, writing, sharing, group projects• Helps build self-esteem and “buy-in” to school• Helps students learn how to connect to counselors, library services, clubs,

athletics, and other high school activities• Helps students develop education goals and research career opportunities• Helps with academic tracking and timely communication w/ families• Helps with organization and use of tools such as a daily planner• High interest reading material is used to engage students
