A Word From Walt

For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so that we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

Ephesians 2:10 NLT

What are the ―good things he planned for us long ago‖? Is it possible for us to know what God wants us to do? If so – and I certainly believe it is – what specific steps are we to take? We began that discussion last Sunday and will continue it today.

In the meantime, as John Ortberg reminds us, it‘s exciting and encouraging to realize that God‘s plans for us are unique and special:

The Bible does not say you are God’s appliance; it says you are his masterpiece. Appliances get mass-produced. Masterpieces get hand-crafted. God did not make you exactly like anyone else. Therefore his plan for shaping you will not look like his plan for shaping anyone else.

… he always knows just what each person needs.

He had Abraham take a walk, Elijah take a nap, Joshua take a lap, and Adam take the rap.

He gave Moses a forty-year time out, he gave David a harp and a dance, and he gave Paul a pen and a scroll.

He wrestled with Jacob, argued with Job, whispered to Elijah, warned Cain, and comforted Hagar.

He gave Aaron an altar, Miriam a song, Gideon a fleece, Peter a name, and Elisha a mantle.

Jesus was stern with the rich young ruler, tender with the woman caught in adultery, patient with the disciples, blistering with the scribes, gentle with the children, and gracious with the thief on the cross.

God never grows two people the same way. God is a hand-crafter, not a mass-producer.

Now it is your turn.

MARRIAGE MINISTRY

Thought for the week:

Keeping Secrets Sometimes keeping secrets seems the safest course in the beginning, but the damage emerges later. Secrets tend to gain momentum and strength the longer you wait to reveal them. The devil is a lot like a cockroach. He does his best work in dark places, thriving on secrets.

Jonathan’s Journey

ENCOUNTERING GOD THROUGH THE PSALMS Today in our adult classes we will be studying Psalm 62. The introduction and questions are available at the Information Center—as well as the intro and questions for next week‘s lesson (Psalm 46). Please read the Psalm 46 intro below.

This psalm is a song written to extol the presence of God to protect, strengthen and assist us as we face areas of difficulty within our lives. With the presence of God there is no room for fear even when our circumstances tell us otherwise. Life can get overwhelming at times. Often the unfortunate change of a set of circumstances in our lives can set in motion a cascade of events that seems to build momentum with each passing moment. The only hope for being able to determine a secure outcome to the insults we incur is based upon the anchor and foundation of our faith.

Don‘t forget you can listen to John Young read the Psalms each week on the BHCC website!

BHCC 24 APPLICATIONS Campers...are you ready to be an AGENT? Fill out your applications for BHCC24 and join the newest class of agents for CTU (Cross Training Unit)! Junior Camp is June 27-July 1, and is open to those who are completing 3rd-5th grades. Senior Camp is July 4-10, and is open to those who have completed 6th grade and up. Both camps will be held at the CTU Headquarters (Camp Leatherwood in White Bluff, TN). All of last year‘s campers should receive an application in the mail, and applications are available at the Information Center. Camp is a wonderful time to make new friends and create incredible memories—all while spending a great week in worship to the Father! We hope you will join us for BHCC 24! All applications are due June 2!

Staff applications for BHCC 24 are due TODAY! If you are planning to join us as agents of CTU, please turn in your applications!

VISITOR PARKING You may have noticed the special section on the top row of the parking lot for our visitors. We hope that these reserved spaces will make a visit to Brentwood Hills a bit more convenient. The last thing we want our visitors to worry about is where to park! Please save these spaces for our visitors and help make all of our guests feel welcome!

Have a great week as you are ―Sharing Light and Love on your Journey to the Son!‖
