FROM THE COCKPIT (FLT CAPTAIN'S LOG: 08- 20): This month we are planning on another

meeting by Zoom. After our Invocation, Pledge of Allegiance, toasts, and some flight business updates, we will

have a presentation from one of our newer members, “Chaz” Shurlow. Chaz was a Flight Surgeon in the AF , and

will be talking about support for the warfighters by the 332 expeditionary Medical Group Operations in 2009. Last

month’s Zoom meeting was very successful and Zoom presents a great opportunity for those who find it hard to

make the regular monthly meetings to connect with the flight. We have emailed all of you an invitation with the

link to the meeting. While we would love to have you all participate with live video, there are also instructions

on how to participate by phone only.

STANDARD DEBRIEF ITEMS: PREVIOUS FLIGHT LEG (21 Jul 2020): On 21 July, we held

another Flight 9 Zoom meeting. We had about 30 members in attendance (a few by phone only). We had 2 new

members, Frank Webber and Hunter Barnhill (whose Great-Grandfather was a founding member of Flight-9!), as

well as one of our Cadet Scholarship winners, Jared Jaquish. Over 20 members had sent us a photo. We had our

invocation and Pledge of Allegiance, as well as our standard toasts. We then went through all of the photos that

had been sent in, and the sender then had a minute (a generous minute, to be sure) to tell the story of the photo.

There were some great photos and stories, and it was great to hear more about our member’s history. A great

time! We appreciated seeing the participants online, though we look forward to live meetings before too long.

NOTAMS:

DFT: Our two DFT students have attended Ground School and are into Flight Training. Their enthusiasm is

impressive. We look forward to their initial solo rides in the near future.

Scholarships: Our Scholarship awardees have been notified, and we look forward to being able to present them

their scholarship when our meetings resume. As noted above Cadet Jared Jaquish participated in the Zoom

meeting.

Flight Officers and Committee Chairmen (Repeat): I still need someone who likes to write. Many

of the wonderful things we do go unnoticed because we don’t have someone writing our story for the Daedalus

Flyer! We also, need to get the word out there to seek new members. The Exec Council will help with the editing

-- we just need someone to take the lead.

Council was successfully held on Zoom following the 21 Jul meeting. The next Exec Council meeting will be on

Tuesday, 18 Aug, on Zoom, immediately following the Aug meeting. Anyone who would like to participate can

stay on the video conference for the Executive Council.
