2.2.2 A minimum wall thickness of Sch 160 shall be used for small bore pipe (NPS ½” - 1 ½”) invibrating service. Lines in vibrating service will be identified in the line list.

2.2.3 Pipe nipples shall not be less than 100 mm long.

2.2.4 All threaded nipples shall be a minimum of Sch. 160.

2.2.5 Electric resistance welded pipe may be used as an alternative to seamless pipe withwritten approval from the Owner’s Engineer.

2.2.6 Odd sizes of pipe such as NPS 1 ¼”, 2 ½”, 3 ½”, 5” and 22” shall not be used.

2.2.7 All carbon steel pipe dimensions must conform to ASME B36.10M and all stainless steelpipe dimensions must conform to ASME B36.19M.

2.2.8 Pipe tolerances shall be those specified in the identified ASTM specification

2.2.9 Welding or couplings shall not be used to achieve double random lengths.

2.2.10 Threaded and coupled piping shall be supplied with taper threaded couplings inaccordance with ASME B1.20.1.

2.2.11 For pipe with a longitudinal weld seam fabricated using a filler material, the maximumhardness of the weld and the heat affected zone (HAZ) shall not exceed 225 BHN.

5.2 Material

5.2.1 Cast iron and austenitic ductile iron shall not be used.

5.2.2 Components fabricated from carbon steel shall be killed low carbon steel. When thecomponents are intended for welding they shall also have the following properties:

5.2.2.1 When trace elements are shown on the carbon steel MTR the CE shall be lessthan or equal to 0.45%. The CE is defined as follows:

CE = % C + % Mn/6 + (% Cr + % Mo + % V) /5 + (% Ni + % Cu)/15

5.2.2.2 When trace elements are not shown on the carbon steel MTR the CE is defined asfollows and shall be less than 0.04%:

CE = % C + % Mn/6

5.2.3 All carbon steel butt welds greater than 9.5 mm, that are exposed to sour service, shall bePWHT. For butt welds of pipe with wall thickness less than 9.5 mm, PWHT is not requiredif the weldment is hardness tested to be 22 HRC or less as required by NACE MR-0175latest edition. Testing shall include the filler, the HAZ (both sides) and the base material(both sides).

All carbon steel fillet welds, that are exposed to sour service, shall be PHWT if theweldment is hardness tested to be greater than 22 HRC or if the weld meets the criteria forPWHT as defined by ASME B31.3 Section 331.1.3.

PWHT of carbon steel materials shall be at a minimum temperature of 620oC for a holdtime of one hour per inch of nominal wall thickness, or a minimum total hold time of onehour. After post weld heat treatment, the Heat Affected Zone (HAZ) shall not exceed 22HRC for low carbon steel materials.

5.2.4 All welds shall preheat to a minimum of 38oC.

5.2.5 Threaded connections shall only be used where allowed by the appropriate pipe class andthen only where socket weld connections are impractical.

5.2.6 Slip – on flanges shall not be used.

5.2.7 Inspection, Testing and Repairs

5.2.7.1 No welding or welded attachments shall be allowed after PWHT.

5.2.7.2 All welds that can be radiographed shall be 100% radiographed after PWHT.Welds that can not be radiographed shall be examined by ultrasonic, magneticparticle or liquid penetrant methods as specified in the purchase order.

5.2.7.3 Impact testing shall be in accordance with ASME B31.3. The acceptance standardfor ultrasonic or magnetic particle testing shall be in accordance with ASME B31.3.

5.2.7.4 Carbon steel material hardness shall not exceed 22 HRC.

6.1 All material shall bear the identification markings as required by the applicable standards andspecifications (e.g., ASTM, ASME, API, MSS, etc.

6.2 Mill test reports shall be furnished for all materials.

6.3 Materials shall be marked with a longitudinal paint stripe 5 mm wide running the full length of thepipe or component. On austenitic stainless steel the marking paint shall contain no harmful metal ormetal salts such as zinc, lead, copper, chlorine, or sulfur which cause corrosive attack uponheating. For Positive Material Identification requirements refer to specification ORBU-SPC-43-10-5.
