This article explains how to upgrade the Oracle Database from 10.2.0.4 to 11.2.0.2

Upgrade from Oracle 10.2.0.4 to 11.2.0.2:

1. Ensure that Oracle is at least 10.2.0.4/10.2.0.5 version as SAP Does not support other versions 2. Oracle 11.2 is only supported for SAP systems with Extension Kernel or higher 3. The Tools that are used OUI, MOptach(Opatch), SQLPLus and Oracle DBUA 4. Oracle 11.2 is released and certified for SAP products running with SAP basis 640 and above and SAP Kernel release 640_ext2 and above. 5. Read the Document based on Note 169706.1. from Oracle metalink 6. Read and download all the notes along with patches referenced in 1431800 7. BR tools Support the Oracle database 11g R2.Down load the Kernel Executables from market Place(SAPEXE.SAR and SAPEXEDB.SAR)

8. Enter the following commands:

Echo $ORACLE_BASE

Cd $ORACLE_BASE

touch $ORACLE_BASE/write_test

rm $ORACLE_BASE/write_test

Create 112_32 folder in “stage and SID” by using mkdir

]# mkdir 112_32

Give the permissions and owner ships to 112_32

Go to oracle upgrade folder and copy the 2 SAR files (OR111264.SAR AND OR211264.SAR) in

to /oracle/stage/112_32 by using the command

cp –pr OR111264.SAR OR211264.SAR /oracle/stage/112_32

Run xhost +

Go to su – orasid

>cd /oracle/stage/112_32/

>ll

Uncar the files by using the command

>SAPCAR –xvf OR111264.SAR

After extracting database folder will be created in stage/112_32

After extracting run the RUNINSTALLER_CHECK to check the runtime variables and software.

Go to the path >cd /oracle/stage/112_32/database/SAP/

>./RUNINSTALLER_CHECK

Click on Fix & Check Again

Run the script in new terminal

Select the version by using the command select version from v$instance;

SQL> select version from v$instance;

Before upgrading stop all the services

Login to sapuser (su - sidadm) stop all the services.

]# su – sidadm

>stopsap

Stop the listener and database by loging into oracle user

]# su – orasid

>sqlplus / as sysdba

SQL>shut immediate

SQL>exit

>lsnrctl stop

Copy the listener.ora and sqlnet.ora from 102_32 to112_32

]# cd /oracle/SID/102_32/network/admin/

admin]# cp –pr listener.ora sqlnet.ora /oracle/SID/112_32/network/admin/

Edit listener.ora

>vi listener.ora

Change 102_32 to 112_32

Add the line ADR_BASE_LISTENER = /oracle/SID/saptrace at last

And then save

Execute ln –s libnnz11.so libnnz10.so to create symbolic link

After that open the new terminal and then start the listener

And then login in to the sql check the version

After that go to the path /oracle/SID/112_32/dbs/ edit the file initSID.ora

At last add 2 lines OS_authent_prefix = OPS$ and remote_os_authent = true

Move spfileSID.ora to spfileSID.ora_old by using the command mv spfileSID.ora

spfileSID.ora_old

> mv spfileSID.ora spfileSID.ora_old

Select the status of database by loging in to the SQL

Shut down the database by using the command shut immediate

After shut down the database create spfile by using the command

SQL>create spfile from pfile

After that start the data base by using the command startup

Check the version by using the command

SQL>select version from v$instance;

After that start the sap

We can also check the version by login in to the gui

Go to system-��status

After upgrading brtools will not be work

To work brtools go to /oracle/SID/102_32/dbs copy the initSID.sap and paste in to

/oracle/SID/112_32/dbs
