The District Superintendent is quite pleased to announce that he has nominated Mrs. Everett H. Brenner to be a member of the Task Force lor Alternate Housing of the Nassau County Mental Health Board.
While it is the District Superintendent's sole prcrogati ve to l1'lllke this appointment, and while these appointments are usually made (rom the ranks o( state. Mrs. Brenner's eminent qualifications and deep devotion to the cause o( the handicapped override any and all other consideraUons. Further, 1 believe that in nominating Mrs. Brenner t have given Curther public visibility to the seamless web which exists in BOCES between Board and staff.
Tc-achcr Edurnlion -It is with grC'Qt plC!nsur(~ that t indi~atc to the Uoard that ~fr. Frank.1. Wolff, Assistant Superintendent for Occupational Education. has boen asked to serve on the Occupational Education Ad\'isory Council o( the
. New York Institute of Technology. 1 am sure that Frank will make a contribution to this group and will further the cause of articulation and intcf,:ratic)fl between secondary Occupational education and the collegiate level,
I an, pleased to infornl the Members of the Board of Education that Mr. Daniel }<Iepak has called the District Superintendent of Schools to express his thanks and those of his staff to us (or the "thoughtful" response to his questions on the cost and quality of education. In what appe-ared to be a very warm and genuine comment to the District Superintendent. he indicated that the response of the Nassau BOCES was the most thorough that he had received (rom across the Stat~ of New York and he felt that to send U8 the form letter acknowledgment used with other boards of education \vouid be to do a disservice to this Board and its staff.
Furthernlorl', Mr. l<lcpak .rcCltWstecJ an opportunity Lo n1ccl with the District Super"intendent of Schools on Thursday, September 13th. at which time he will be in J'Jassau County on other business. This meeting was the first step in the implementation of the District Superintendent's commitment to provide the former Beechwood PTA with unusual levels of liaison during this period of transition from our Corntt!r special education organizational structure to that described, euphemistically, as reorganization.
Attached is a summary report prepared by Mr. Kratzert which indicates in chronological order the speaking engagements (ulfilled by the BOCES staft and Board during the 1972-73 school year.
t think it is a con'prehensive list and deserves the attention of the Board of Education. It will be put into its larger perspectl ve shortly when Mr. Kratzert presents the Board with an overview of the Public Information program for which he is responsible. At such time we hope the Board will be willing and able to provide U8 with their guidance in reltard to sharpening and enhancing our errorts in identifying and in(arming our tllllny and various publics,
I. "Inspector Gencral"
• The District Superintendent is pleased to indicate to the Board that our jOint lcU(9r to tv1r. l(tcpak wilh rcgard to the provision of assistance has not only been well ree(~ived, but has been accepted in practice.
On Thursrhl)". Scplt~nlbflr 6th, two nHHl'lbors o( ""r. l<lcpak*s starr. who ha\"~ responsibility for evaluation of the efficiency of school transportation, spent the n)orning \t,dth the District Superintendent, Mr. Gormley. and Mr. Forte. They nlade it quite clear towards the end of the mceting that they found the Nassau BOCES--its Board and 8ta((--a "gold rninc tl
and intended to talk with U8 whenever and wherever necessary. We are most pleased with this developnlent and believe that the expertisc which is now resident in Mr. Klepak's unit may well assist U8 in improving the efficiency and economy of our operation.
