Friday, February 20th 6:30am - 8:00am Continental Breakfast 6:30am - 8:00pm Registration - 4th Floor Lobby 7:00am - 8:00am Jeffrey Varanelli, OD, FAAO "Sutureless Amniotic Membranes" (TPA/DPA) The amniotic membrane is the inner layer of fetal membranes and has been shown to have anti-inflammatory, anti-fibrotic, anti-angiogenic as well as anti-microbial properties. When applied to the cornea, the inherent properties of the amniotic membrane promote healing by providing an excellent substrate for growth, migration, and adhesion of epithelial corneal and conjunctival cells. This symposium will review the newer sutureless amniotic membranes that are available for optometric use and discuss their current indications (including dry eye, recurrent corneal erosions and neurotrophic keratitis). We will specifically describe how to properly insert and remove the tissues, and will conclude the lecture with a live demonstration. Sponsored by BioD 8:00am - 12:00pm Joe DeLoach, OD, FAAO and John Rumpakis, OD, MBA “Can’t I Just Be a Doctor?” (General) Wouldn’t it be wonderful if you could come to work each day and just take care of your patients without the Government and insurance companies telling you how to take care of your practice and how to run your business? These tests VEP, ERG, mfERG, EOG are often the key to diagnosis and prognosis of a number of inherited and acquired conditions. Although most optometrists dont perform these tests on a regular basis, knowing when to refer, and most importantly, which test to refer for can be critical for a patient’s diagnosis and management.
