SCOUT NETWORKYOUR PERSONAL DEVELOPMENTAn action packed section for those aged between 18-25. No matter your scouting experience, Network is open to all.

Which type of activities does Network take part in? The truthful answer is virtually anything. Is there an activity you’ve always wanted to try? Is there something you really enjoy doing and would like to introduce others to? This is your chance to organise it with Network and have a go!

Dont worry if you are studying outside of Leicestershire, you can still join and enjoy network in your holidays!

Achieve your Queen’s Scout Award, Duke of Edinburgh, Explorer Belt or Scouts of the World.

N.B. Young adults need to be members of network if they wish to obtain their queen’s scout award before they are 25.

In Leicestershire we have a growing Network with one or more units in each District.

SECTION ASSISTANTDELIVER THE PROGRAMMESection assistants support the delivery of the programme to youth members. A good role to bridge gap between the Young Leader and full sectional leadership roles.

SECTION LEADERGIVE SOMETHING BACKWork with young people regularly and directly contribute towards their personal development. Get training and support relevant to your role. It can be exhausting but rewarding!

THE STUDENT SCOUT AND GUIDE ORGANISATIONSCOUTING WHILST STUDYINGSSAGO exists to support Scouts, Guides, and people who have never been members of Scouting to participate in Scouting whilst they are students at Colleges and Universities away from home.

MANAGER OR EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEMBERSUPPORT ADULTSThis involves either managing the work of other leaders or acting as a trustee on an Executive Committee which ensures the resources needed to run Scouting are provided. Roles exist at Group, District or County level. Most young adults do not consider such a role – why not? We need talented young managers at all levels.

ADVENTUROUS ACTIVITY INSTRUCTORDELIVER ADVENTUREAt a campsite or as an Activity Leader. Leicestershire has a wide range of activity teams from Mountian Biking to Shooting. All teams accpet new members and arrange relevant training to yet your leader permits.

“AM I LIMITED TO JUST ONE ROLE AS AN ADULT IN SCOUTING?”Of course not, you can be a member in as many ways as you like!

(If you are a Leader you must be able to fulfil the agreed duties of that role.)

OTHER THINGS YOU

SHOULD KNOW

DO I NEED TO PAY SUBS?This varies between Districts. Generally for adults in leadership and management roles the Group, District or County will pay their subs. For other roles, who pays subs and how much, is decided locally.

WHAT TYPES OF MEMBERSHIP ARE THERE?Members can be full (you need to make your preferred form of Promise) or Associate (you don’t have to make the Promise but you can if you wish).

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO JOIN AS AN ADULT?All adults (over 18s) who are members of Scouting, or have regular contact with under-18s as part of Scouting activities must complete a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

You should also be given a copy of the yellow card, and someone should explain its contents to you.

You may also need to go through an Appointment Process (be interviewed by the relevant Appointments Advisory Committee) and do some training - see the table overleaf for more information.
