Mother’s Day is an excellent opportunity for every child to thank their mother, for her undying love and support. The day, dedicated to all the mothers across the world, is celebrated with great zeal and fanfare. A journey that every woman undertakes from being just a “woman’” to a “mother”, calls for numerous sacrices and pain. So, a special day like Mother’s Day gives a child the chance to express the deep-felt gratitude toward their mother. Though children can never repay their mother, they can surely do little things to make her happy and feel special.
Mother’s Day is dedicated to the leading lady of the family. The whole world basks in the glory of the day, where every child takes immense pleasure in making it special in the life of his/her mother. While the Super Moms sit back and relax on this particular day, children take up all the responsibilities. Mother’s Day celebrations date back to the times of ancient Greeks. While it was celebrated in a small way during that time, it gained popularity and momentum in the early 19th century and in the present time, is practiced in full force.
Celebrate Mother’s Day this year at the Leaders Club Mother’s Day Brunch on May 9 from 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM.Reservations are required, so call (502) 942-0959 for more information and to reserve your family’s spot.
CELEBRATE.

GARLAND OF ROSES - Each year, a garland of more than 400 red roses is sewn into a green satin backing with the seal of the Commonwealth on one end and the Twin Spires and number of the race’s current renewal on the other. Each garland is also adorned with a “crown” of roses, green fern, and ribbon. The “crown,” a single rose pointing upward in the center of the garland, symbolizes the struggle and heart necessary to reach the Derby Winner’s Circle.
THE SONG - In the world of sports, there is not a more moving moment than when the horses step onto the track for the Kentucky Derby post parade and the band strikes up
history on the playing of the Stephen Foster ballad as a Derby Day tradition, it is believed to have originated in 1921 for the 47th running of the classic.
DERBY TROPHY - History is unclear if a trophy was
Derby, and trophy presentations were sporadically made in following years. Finally, in 1924, legendary Churchill Downs President Matt Winn commissioned a standard design to be developed for the “Golden Anniversary” of the Derby.
THE INFIELD - perspectives and two experiences: the third turn party, where the young and the young at heart indulge in all things fun, freewheeling and, sometime, at little frisky. If you visit the third turn and participate in its madcap antics on Derby weekend, take lots of pictures but think twice about showing them to dear old Mom and Dad!
sedate, family-like picnic setting that’s G-rated and
this is the place to go – just keep an eye on them.
SILKS - Modern race fans are able to follow a horse’s progress during a race through the use of some relatively new inventions: the race program, television monitors, the number on the horse’s saddlecloth, and the track announcer’s
which horse was which. So, they adopted racing silks - or colors - to distinguish their jockeys for easier viewing.
TWIN SPIRES - Throughout the world, the Twin Spires are a recognized landmark and have become visual symbols of Churchill Downs and its most famous race, the Kentucky Derby. Constructed in 1895, the Twin Spires were the creation of a 24-year-old draftsman, Joseph Dominic Baldez, who was asked to draw the blueprints for Churchill Downs’ new grandstand. Originally the plans did not include the Twin Spires
continued work on his design, he felt the structure needed something to give it a striking appearance.
MINT JULEP- The Mint Julep has been the traditional beverage of Churchill Downs and the Kentucky Derby for nearly a century. Each year, almost 120,000 Early Times Mint Juleps are served over the two-day period of Kentucky Oaks and Kentucky Derby weekend at Churchill Downs Racetrack. That’s a feat that requires more than 10,000 bottles of Early Times Mint Julep Ready-to-Serve Cocktail, 1,000 pounds of freshly harvested mint, and 60,000 pounds of ice.
NEWCOMER’S GUIDE TO THE
Kentucky DerbyOver its 136-year history, the Kentucky Derby has
amassed dozens of traditions that Churchill Downs’
employees, horsemen, and millions of Derby fans
worldwide hold dear. From the iconic Twin Spires
that overlook the track’s famous homestretch to
the potent mint juleps that infuse Derby Day with
“spirit,” traditions are an important part of the Derby
experience. Every year, the Kentucky Derby Nation of
fans looks forward to observing these storied rituals
leading up to the “Greatest Two Minutes in Sports.”

Always a popular live act, Keith maintains a heavy tour schedule, which includes a stop at Fort Knox on May 29, 2009. For more information about ticket availability, contact the Fort Knox ITR oce at (502) 624-5030.
Singer, songwriter, musician, and actor, Toby Keith was born on July 8, 1961, in Clinton, Oklahoma. Raised in Oklahoma City, Keith started playing music at a young age after being inspired by the musicians who worked in his grandmother’s supper club. After working for a while in the oil industry and playing defense in the USFL football league, he decided to pursue a career in music.
In the early ‘90s, Keith signed with Mercury Records, and by 1993 his self-titled debut album was certied platinum. His follow-up records, Boomtown and Blue Moon, were equally successful thanks to such popular hits as “Who’s That Man” and “Me Too.” In 1997 he teamed with Sting to record “I’m So Happy I Can’t Stop Crying,” which earned the duo a Grammy nomination. More success followed with the 1999 album How Do You Like Me Now?!, which won two Academy of Country Music (ACM) awards in 2000. His 2002 album, Unleashed, sold 3 million copies and included a hit duet with Willie Nelson, “Beer for My Horses.”
In 2001, the events of September 11 prompted Keith to write the hit song “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry American),” which was hugely popular, particularly among military personnel.
Keith was named Entertainer of The Year by the Academy of Country Music in 2002 and 2003. He received an additional surge of media attention in 2003 when he engaged in a public clash with Natalie Maines, the lead singer of the Dixie Chicks.
Later that year, he released Shock’n Y’All, which reached the top of the country and pop album charts. The recording’s title is a play on the military expression, “shock and awe,” from the Iraq war, and
his ode to the troops, “American Soldier,” was a big success. He also continued to cultivate his good ol’ boy image with such tracks as “I Love This Bar.” He and Nelson won an ACM Award in 2004 for the video for their duet, “Beer for My Horses.”
His next eort, Honkytonk University, released in 2005, featured a duet with country music icon Merle Haggard on “She Ain’t Hooked on Me No More.” The biggest single from the album was the ballad “As Good As I Once Was,” which helped the album top the country and pop charts. The video for the song also won the Country Music Association (CMA) Award for Music Video of the Year in 2005. That same year, Keith was honored by his home state by being inducted into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame.
On the road a lot, Keith has made some life-threatening stops along the way. In April 2008, he played 18 shows for U.S. troops in Persian Gulf as part of a U.S.O. Tour. Keith even had to pause during one of his performances because of mortar re, but he returned to the stage after the attack stopped.
Later that year, he starred in the big-screen comedy Beer for My Horses as a small-town deputy who arrests a Mexican drug lord, which leads to the kidnapping of his girlfriend by the drug lord’s brother. Keith co-wrote the screenplay and co-produced the lm, which featured appearances by Ted Nugent and Willie Nelson. His latest release, American Ride, was released in October 2009.
