1. Introduction
1.1. Purpose This operation manual contains operating procedure for the R188 MDS Portable Test Equipment (PTE) Application. It is recommended that you read this manual in its entirety before using the PTE for the first time.

(Note) There are two types of TOD to be installed: TOD controlled by CBTC and TOD controlled by MDS (TNC: TNCP). In the TS, the former is described as “CBTC TOD”, and the latter is described as “non-CBTC TOD”. In this specification, TOD refers to non-CBTC TOD unless otherwise specified. 11S-RS-00029 Ver. 1.3. System Outline R188 MDS PTE Application is launched by PTELauncher. The R188 MDS PTE Application enables date/time adjustment, parameter setting, TNC/CNC software updating, TOD screen data updating, Fault Log/Historical Data downloading and erasing, execution of Self Test and viewing its results, and I/O status checking. Refer to Table 1 for operating environment for MDS PTE Application. You will find start-up/exiting methods in Section 2, functions and operating methods in Section 3 and troubleshooting procedure in Section 4.

2. Start-up and Exit
2.1. Start-up the PTE 1) Start the PC.

2.2. Exiting the PTE Application 1) To exit the PTE Application, click the close button ( ) in the title bar, click the EXIT button in the PTE Control
Menu, or click the Exit in the pull-down menu.

3. Functions and Operations
3.1. Function The functions are different depending on the target equipment. Refer to Table 2 for a list of possible operations.

5) When “When logged in next time, input of User Name is skipped” check box is checked, User Name is saved till next login.
6) If PTE is started without connecting WIBU-Key to PC, User Name, Password and LGOIN MAINTENANCE AND ADMINISTRATION SECTION button cannot be inputted.
When you do not use Administrative function, click LGOIN MAINTENANCE SECTION button. (Figure 4)

3.3. Operation Procedures
3.3.1. Connection PTE and Equipments 1) Connect PTE to equipment (TNC, CNC, or TOD) with PTE cable. Or connect PTE to DW with RS-232C cable.
Or select “NONE” in the following step not to connect any cable.
2) Click the button of the target equipment in the window shown in (Figure 5). This window is displayed only when the PTE is started up. A name of connected equipment is displayed in the Status Bar of Main Window.

3.3.2. Selecting a Function from PTE Control Menu All functions of the PTE start from PTE Control Menu.
This menu is divided into two parts. In upper part of menu, present PTE status is displayed. In lower part of menu, there are buttons to execute the function of PTE.
When the close button ( ) in the PTE Control Menu window is clicked, the PTE Control Menu window is closed. When [ShowMenu] in the Pull-down menu is clicked, the PTE Control Menu window is displayed at default position.

3.3.3. Checking the Version of the MDS Software Follow the procedure as specified below to check the version of the MDS software connected PTE.

3.3.4.1. Displaying and Saving Fault Log Follow the procedure as specified below to display Fault Log on PTE screen, and save it into a file.

3.3.5.1. Downloading Self Test Results Follow the procedure as specified below to download Self Test result displayed on the TOD Screen to the PTE:

3) Operate TOD to display "Self Test result" on the TOD Screen, in the following procedure:

Note A lag as large as 2 seconds may occur among MDS Time, Display Time and PC Time depending on the timing of setting.
3.3.7.2. Adjusting Parameters Follow the procedure as specified below to adjust parameters for Car Servicing Timer, Sleep Timer A, Sleep Timer B, Wiper Intermittent Control Timer (ON, OFF) and Load Shedding Stage2:

1) Connect PTE to TNC with PTE cable.
2) Start MDS PTE Application. Click the TNC button on Connect Menu Screen.
3) Click OTHER FUNCTIONS button in MAINTENANCE category in PTE Control Menu, and then MAINTENANCE OTHER MENU (Figure 27) is displayed.

Default and the “Edit Box”- can be set.

3.3.8. Viewing Log Files Follow the procedure as specified below to view the Log (Fault Log / Historical Data / Self Test Result) stored in the PTE:
1) Start MDS PTE Application.
2) Click the NONE button on Connect Menu Screen. (You can click a button for a target equipment (TNC, CNC, TOD, or DW) on Connect Menu Screen after you connect the PTE to TNC, CNC, TOD, or DW, and can go to the next step.)
3) Click OTHER FUNCTIONS button in MAINTENANCE category in PTE Control Menu, and then MAINTENANCE OTHER MENU (Figure 33) is displayed.

3.3.10. CRC Calculation Follow the procedure as specified below to verify CRC value of the software (TNC Application, CNC Application and TNC/CNC BOOT) that stores in PTE:
Note: The “CRC Calculation” screen is a stand-alone. The MDS PTE Application is able to calculate the “CRC” values of the TNC app, CNC app, and BOOT software that are saved in the Hard Disk Drive (HDD). The user can then verify whether software to be saved in the PTE is the same software as the software on the TNC and CNC by comparing the calculated “CRC” value (ref. Figure 42) and “CRC” value displayed as Self Test result from the TOD.
1) Start MDS PTE Application.
2) Click the NONE button on Connect Menu Screen. (You can click a button for a target equipment (TNC or CNC) on Connect Menu Screen after you connect the PTE to TNC or CNC, and can go to the next step.)
3) Click OTHER FUNCTIONS button in MAINTENANCE category in PTE Control Menu, and then MAINTENANCE OTHER MENU Screen (Figure 41) is displayed.

3.3.13.1. Downloading Software from PTE (for TNC or CNC) Follow the procedure as specified below to download software for the TNC, or the CNC
1) Install the WIBU-Key before starting PTE.
2) Registering of Software Package is necessary for downloading MDS software from PTE. Refer to section 3.3.15 for registering software package.
3) Connect PTE to TNC or CNC with PTE cable.
4) Start MDS PTE Application. Click the button of the target equipment (TNC or CNC) on Connect Menu Screen.
5) When the word PRESENT is displayed in the WIBU KEY column of the PTE control Menu, Software can be downloaded. Whereas if the word NOT PRESENT is displayed, software cannot be downloaded.

4. Troubleshooting
4.1. Setting File Error The message as shown in (Figure 92) means that the setting file for software execution could not be opened. Clicking “OK” exits the PTE. Refer to (Table 37) for possible causes and required measures.

CAUSE Measure There are no files for software execution. Uninstall the software and reinstall it.
4.2. Communication Errors Error messages may appear during downloading from the TNC or the CNC, or transferring to the DW, depending on the communication cable connection state or operating environment. These messages mean that no downloading/transferring is in progress. The following subsections describe these messages.
4.2.1. Serial Port Open Error The message as shown in (Figure 93) means that the communication port of the PTE’s PC cannot be opened. Refer to (Table 38) for possible causes and required measures.

5.1. Installation of the PTE The MDS PTE Application cannot operate without .NET Framework 4 installed. If .NET Framework 4 is not installed, installation of .NET Framework 4 is automatically started, and then installation of the PTE Application is started.
When .NET Framework 4 is installed, installation of the PTE Application is started without installing .NET Framework 4.
And then, set up V-SFT. (Refer to Section 5.2.)

2) Start the setup program by executing “Setup.exe” program file in the MDS PTE installation CD-ROM.
3) If .NET Framework 4 is not installed, (Figure 105) is displayed. Install .NET Framework 4 according to the instructions of the Setup program.

4) Upon completion of installation of .NET Framework 4, (Figure 106) is displayed. Install the PTE Application according to the instructions of the Setup program.
Note Install the PTE Application into the C drive.
5.2. Installation and Setup of V-SFT V-SFT should be installed to download TOD Screen Data to the TOD. Install V-SFT in the following procedure:

5.3. Uninstallation of the PTE PTE can be uninstalled using “Add or Remove Programs” of Windows default program.
Note In this uninstallation procedure, a downloaded file, different versions of MDS PTE Application, and PTE software for other than MDS are not deleted.

5.5. Responses when PTE Installation Failed If an error message is displayed during the PTE installation, the following causes are possible. Appropriate actions have to be taken to correct it. Refer to (Table 49) for responses needed when installation failed.

Cause Measure There is little disk space in the drive. Expand disk space in the drive or select another drive with
enough disk space and then reinstall the software. The drive is not available. Reinstall the software into another drive. Installation disk is damaged. Create a new installation disc from backed-up copies of the

5.6. Confirming WIBU-Key Driver is installed Confirm that the WIBU-Key Driver Version 5.0 or higher is installed in the following procedure since the MDS PTE Application cannot operate without the installed WIBU-Key Version 6.0 or higher.
