Energy and water consumption

– Water consumption and energyusage are determined by the size ofthe load.

– Use the Automatic and Quick washprogrammes for small loads.

– If smaller loads are washed using theCottons Hygiene and the CottonsUniversal programmes, the automat-ic load recognition system willreduce the amount of water, time andenergy used. This may mean that thetime left shown in the display isadjusted during the course of thewash programme.

– Instead of using the CottonsHygiene 95°C programme, useCottons Universal 60°C and selectthe Intensive EXTRA. This will give anenergy saving of between 35% and45%. The programme duration willbe longer. This combination issufficient for most levels of soiling. For stubborn or old stains, use theSoak EXTRA.

Detergent

– Do not exceed the amount ofdetergent recommended by themanufacturer on the packaging.

– Reduce the amount of detergent forsmaller loads. Use theLoad/Detergent button.

Choosing the correct Extra options(Soak, Pre-wash, Intensive)

Select:

A wash programme without anyEXTRAS for light to normal soilingwhere there are no obvious marks.

A wash programme with theIntensive EXTRA for normal to heavilysoiled laundry with visible staining.

– Use the Soak EXTRA instead ofPre-wash. If Soak is followed immedi-ately by a main wash the same sudsare used.

When drying with a tumble dryer

– Selecting the highest possible spinspeed for the wash programme willsave energy when drying in a tumbledryer afterwards.

Installation surfaceA concrete floor is the most suitableinstallation surface for a washingmachine, being far less prone tovibration during the spin cycle thanwooden floorboards or a carpetedsurface.

Please note the following points:

^ The machine must be level andsecurely positioned.

^ To avoid vibrations during spinning, the machine should not be installedon soft floor coverings.

If installing on a wooden joist floor:

^ we recommend a plywood base(at least 59x52x3 cm). The baseshould span several joists and bebolted to the joists and not only to thefloorboards. Check for the presenceof pipes and cables.

If possible, install the machine in acorner, as this is usually the most stablepart of the floor.

,If the machine is installed on araised plinth, it has to be securedagainst slippage during spin usingretaining clips (available from theMiele Spare Parts Dept).

Installing the washing machineTo manoeuvre the machine out of itspacking case to its installlation site holdit by the edge of the lid where itprotrudes to the rear of the washingmachine as well as by the handlerecesses at the front.

Please note:

^ Do not lift the machine by the drumdoor.

,Ensure that the machine feet andthe floor are dry to prevent themachine from slipping during thespin cycle.

^ To remove the left and right covers

1. Use a screwdriver to prise out thecover as illustrated.

If you wish to push your machine undera worktop and there is space to do thiswithout removing the lid, theconversion kit is not necessary.Otherwise the conversion kit isessential.

– For installation under a work surface900/910 mm from the floor, a raisingkit* is required.

– Connections for electricity, water anddrainage should be installed in sucha way that they remain accessiblewhen the machine is in place.

Fitting instructions are supplied with theconversion kit.

All parts marked* are available from theMiele Spare Parts or Sales Department.

The fitting of cover plates andstacking kits must only beundertaken by qualified andcompetent persons, in accordancewith the instructions supplied withthe kit.

The Miele Waterproof systemThe Miele Waterproof system protectsall parts of the washing machine fromwater damage.

The system consists of three maincomponents:

1) the inlet hoses

2) the electronic unit and the washingmachine housing

3) the drain hose

1) Inlet hoses

– The inlet hoses are fitted withadditional electrical safety valveswhich work like automatic stopcocksand are housed in the inlet hoseconnection boxes.

– They are pressure proof to between7000 and 10000 kPa.

– The inlet hoses have a protectivesleeve.

Any leaking water from the inlet hoseis fed into the sump through theprotective covering which surroundsthe inlet hose as a "second skin". Thefloat switches off the safety valves, preventing water flowing into themachine and water in the sudscontainer is pumped away.

2) Electronic unit and washingmachine housing

– Sump

Any leaking water is collected in asump in the base of the appliance. Afloat switches off the water inletvalves, preventing water flowing intothe machine and water in the sudscontainer is pumped away.

– Overflow protection

This prevents the washing machinetaking in too much water. If the waterlevel exceeds a certain level, thedrain pump switches on and pumpsthe water away.

3) Drain hose

The drain hose is protected by aventilation system which prevents thewashing machine from beingemptied completely.

Connection to the water supply

The plastic casing of the safety valve contains electrical components. TheWaterproof system must only be connected to its own stopcock. It must not beconnected to mixer taps or similar and must not be fitted in areas where there isthe risk of water or other liquids reaching it. A flexible metal extension hose, available from your Miele dealer or the Miele Spare Parts Department as anoptional extra, should be used if necessary.

Do not dip into any liquid.

The protective sleeve of the hosemust not be damaged or kinked.

The machine should be connected to amains water supply in accordance withlocal and national safety regulations.Connection to a household watersoftener is not recommended.

The machine is designed to operatewith a flow pressure of between 100and 1000 kPa. If it is higher than1000 kPa it is essential to fit a reducervalve.

Connection to the mains water supplyshould incorporate a mains stopcockwith 3/4" thread. The stopcock shouldbe fitted by a qualified plumber.

,The connection points aresubject to mains water pressure.Turn on the stopcocks slowly andcheck for leaks. Correct the positionof the washer and union ifappropriate.

Maintenance and care

Only use a Miele Waterproof systemhose should you need a replacement.

In order to protect the water inletvalve, the dirt filter in the water inletvalve connection must not beremoved.

Extension hose

A 1.5 metre long (metal) extension hoseis available from your Miele dealer orthe Miele Spare Parts Department as anoptional extra.

* For a delivery head of more than 1 m(up to a maximum of 1.8 m) a secondduo-drain pump is available with thecorresponding kit from the Miele SpareParts Department or your Miele Dealer.

Drain hose connection:

1. Direct into a sink or basin:

Please note the following

– Hook the hose over the edge andsecure.

– Make sure that the water can drainaway freely without hindrance.Otherwise there is a risk of wateroverflowing or of some of the drainedwater being sucked back into themachine.

2. Connected securely to a plastic drainpipe with a rubber nipple. There is noneed to use a non-return valve.

3. Connected securely to a standpipe.

4. Connected securely to a floor gully.
