From this establishing shot we are able to see through the
reflection of a glass object out towards the back of a
house/apartment. You are also able to see the opening of door
meaning that either a character may have entered or left the room
which would be a way to allow the audience to start to gather a
perception of what may happen in the film.
In this mid shot we see a man (Brad Pitt) standing to one side
of the room presumably holding a bag which is out of shot but we
are able to see this handle. He is also at one side of the shot
which may reiterate the point that he has just entered the room as
well.
In this next mid shot we see him drinking alcohol which may be
used a symbol of the film but could also be used to represent the
mood that he is in at this time. The use of titles also helps to
set the mood and informs the audience of what is going on. It may
also represent that the man is nervous of what may happen or what
has just happened before he entered the room.
Although the man is not clearly in shot we can still see from
the mise en scene that it is currently night time and that a he is
changing rooms through a low angle shot looking up at the subject
and what he as he enters the room.
We then a see a mid/close up of a woman lying in bed presumably
a partner or wife. This could be thought of as the woman is either
trying to sleep or is about helping the main actor with what he is
trying do. At this point there has been no music used yet.
This close up is used to show the reaction of the man from
realising that the woman is doing well in her job and is discussing
him although she hasnt realised and he has, this leads to him
hiding the shoes which allows the audience to become suspicious at
to what the male character has been involved in.
As he moves to the next room through the use of a mid-shot was
used to see him sit down whilst the woman continues talking about
her case/investigation and all the things she talks about match all
the features of the man to the extent of his DNA through the trace
of a hair. This has now lead the audience to believe that the man
is in trouble or could about to be get caught which follows the
plot of this genre of film.
The close up of the hand closing the door almost confirms to the
audience that this is the man who is being looked for and shows
that he doesnt want to be near the women, but by also saying that
he is going to have a shower it allows him time to think of a way
to get out of this situation without making it worst. Tension may
be created when trying to work out what will happen next.
In this final shot we see an empty frame of our character just
leaving through the window and not going for the shower. This sets
up the film in showing what we have discovered with what the plot
of the film may consist of with the male being chased or involved
in a heist. This also allows the audience to gather their own
perception of what will happen.
