• 2.2 Billion Followers • Deity: God• Trinity (Father, Son, Holy Spirit)• Monotheistic• Founder: Jesus Christ (of Nazareth)• Jesus told parables (stories) and was seen as a
threat. He was arrested and executed.
Beliefs of most Christian sects:– Jesus was born to virgin Mary, was the son
of God– lived as a prophet, was crucified, died for
sins, and rose from the dead.–Book= Bible – Leaders=Priests, Ministers, Reverends, Pope
(Catholic)–Place of Worship= Church–PROTESTANT = protest
3 Types of Christians• Eastern Orthodox• Roman Catholic• Protestant (Baptist,
Methodist, Presbyterian, Mormon, Lutheran, etc…)
Catholicism
• 1.2 billion followers (of 2.2 bill. Christians)
• Leaders – bishops and priests (successors of Christ’s disciples)
• Head – Pope (Bishop of Rome and successor to disciple Peter)
• Church – Mass• Communion – sacraments• (bread – body, wine – blood)

• All Catholics are Christians, but not all Christians are Catholics
• The Pope is God’s chosen mouthpiece • Salvation at baptism, can be lost by bad
deeds and no good works.• Purgatory – purification for heaven
