Key Trends
We must have open standards for programming parallel processors
This has not been successful now as every parallel processor was different
Software developers must be able to target multiple platforms to justify investment
GPUs are all parallel processors Tthanks to OpenGL ES standards they all have similar
characteristics – and now there are hundreds of millions of GPUs for developers to target
Parallel software revolution
GPUs will become the ‘heavy lifting’ processors of tomorrows SoCs, becoming vastly more powerful thanks to their scalable parallel processing capabilities
This will trigger a mass market parallel software revolution
Sequential Software Evolution So specialised parallel algorithms written in OpenCL will
be called from existing sequential C/C++ software
