Monday 25th July 13-17Open House of Game//Play GameJam:
ReThink Game.Play.Design
Come and gamejam with the local & international students of the Game.Play.Design Aarhus University Master Summer Course. Together we do a Game.Play.Design sprint and play with robots to rethink and redesign quirky games together for a couple of hours. There will even be prizes!
The GameJam will kick off with an introductory talk by Associate Professor Rikke Toft Nørgård on creative constraints as a driver for ideation and innovation in game design.

Tuesday 26th July. 10-12Open House of Game//Play Talk: ReThinking
GameSystems
This talk introduces to digital games as game systems through classic theories and works on rules and play - then invites participants to ReThink existing gamesystems as a creative constraints for envisioning new forms of rules and play in digital games
Educator:
Assistant Professor,
Claus Toft-Nielsen,
Center for Teaching Development and Digital Media, Aarhus University
Wednesday 27th July, 11-13Open House of Game//Play Talk:
ReThinking Gameworlds
This talk introduces to digital games as game worlds through central works on game spaces and their role in shaping the worlds of digital games - then invites participants to ReThink existing game worlds as a creative constraints for envisioning new forms of spaces and places in digital games
Educator:
Assistant Professor,
Claus Toft-Nielsen,
Center for Teaching Development and Digital Media, Aarhus University
Thursday 28th July, 11-13Open House of Game//Play Talk:
ReThinking Gameinterfaces
This talk introduces to digital games as game interfaces through drawing in works from the periphery of game studies and game materials as both tangible and digital, onscreen and offscreen as well as working with the different modalities that games can engage through gameplay - then invites participants to ReThink existing game interfaces as a creative constraints for envisioning new forms of materialties and modalities in gameplay.

Friday 29th July, 11-13Open House of Game//Play Talk:
ReThinking Game.Play.Design in the field
This talk introduces to the role and potentials of ethnographic field work in game design processes. It accentuates the importance of understanding the specific context of and site for gameplay as well as points towards the unique possibilities arising when designing games for specific settings, experiences, and users - then introduces specific tools to be utilized in ethnographically informed design processes
Educator: Associate professor, Rikke Toft Nørgård,Center for Teaching Development and Digital Media, Aarhus University
Combining theory & field work to ReThink Game//Play
Experience the local and international Game.Play.Design groups present insights and game design ideas from their field work. The groups are working on ReThinking game design in creative ways through rethinks what game systems, game worlds and/or game interfaces might look like in game designs aimed at innovating in specific ethnographic contexts. Educators will provide feedback and reflections on the insights as well as point towards the design ideas strongest innovative potentials.

Gain insight into different models for engaging game design through design processes - Get introduced to different tools, phases, and approaches in the game design process, notably Jesse Schell’s The Art of Game Design. Get introduced to central components in the design process and their role when trying to innovate game systems, game worlds and game interfaces in creative ways.

A gamer experience is always a learner experience. So, what do gamers learn when engaged in different types of game//play? How is gamers experience and learning tied to the systems, worlds, and interfaces of games? How can we ReThink the gamer experience so possibilities for new kinds of learning in games emerge? And how can we work with ReThinking the systems, worlds, and interfaces of games to enable new forms of gamer experience?
Game//Play has the ability to create change in society and people's lives. It has the ability to change viewpoints and behaviors, to create opinions and persuade. Through examples, we discuss some of the bigger points of Game//Play, and reflect on what potentials and dangers there lie nested inside the Game//Play experiences and interactions. How can games ReThink game systems, game worlds and game interfaces to create valuable and meaningful change? Should they create change or remain ‘mere play’? What innovative power lies in ReThinking the point of Game//Play and its role in the world?

How do we create valuable Game//Play and how do we argue for the creation of it? How do we create a strong argument for the value of our game design? And if we have succeeded in creating and arguing for the design of Game//Play with value how do we then proceed to evaluate it? What tools can be employed to gauge whether our game design actually have the value we argued for? And which evaluation tools are relevant for which value arguments?

a day devoted to creative gamethinking and gametinkering at Dokk1 in Aarhus. game design teams from the Aarhus University Summer Course Game.Play.Design: ReThink will:• showcase their game prototypes, • give short talks on rethinking game
systems, game worlds and game interfaces,
• Present video pitches of how their rethinking plays out,
• and display posters with their 4 week long and intense design process and design work.
The talks will take place between 11-13 and prototypes, pitches and posters can be experienced and discussed with the design teams from 13-16
ReThink is the heading of Aarhus 2017 - European Capital of Culture
For 4 weeks all Game.Play.Design teams have been actively engaged in rethinking Game//Play and the interactions and experiences games make possible.
The teams have been working with ReThinking and innovating in relation to gamesystems, gameworlds, and gameinterfaces.
Come and join us for celebratory day of ReThinking Game//Play
