The course objective is to equip participants with the knowledge and practical skills to effectively cooperate with others, to learn and demonstrate leadership styles, and recognise situations for when their use is most effective. Throughout the week the activities enable students to gain insight and feedback on their own and their team mates leadership strengths and areas for development. Objectives: Face fears and give new activities a go Exploring personal boundaries and challenging limits Ultimate Fun Experience the importance of teamwork, team trust and mutual support Understanding the role of leadership – motivating and influencing others Effective communication and problem solving skills within the team Gain heightened self awareness and awareness of their surroundings A time to reflect and appreciate what is important them Programme Structure: The carefully sequenced outdoor activities follow a format of briefing, activity and debriefing. The activities will address particular team and leadership skills, such as communication, conflict resolution, trust development and self-esteem. As the programme progresses and activities become more involved, a combination of team and leadership skills will be needed to complete them successfully. The activities are not a test of fitness or strength but will require participants to reflect on how they behave and cooperate with others and how to transfer this learning to the school environment. The objective is to equip participants with the knowledge and practical skills to effectively cooperate with others, for the students to learn and demonstrate leadership styles, and recognise situations for when their use is most effective. All these activities provide both an outcome focused on specific team issues while encouraging generic team development skills. Sample Programme
Arrival Group arrives at the centre the evening before the programme commences wherethey are welcomed by the Lead Instructor and briefed on their programme.
Day One
Morning Objective: Developing trust and support within the team
Trust and team building activities - A progressive series of trust basedactivities and problem solving initiatives utilising the OPC local area.
Steep Creeking – take the opportunity to lead your peers down OkiwiStream, abseiling down cliffs whilst learning how to manage a group safely.
Evening Inspirational presentation by one of our instructors
Day Two
Morning Objective: Full day coasteering challenge
Coasteering - Sea Kayak out to Green Island where you will spend the daynavigating around the island. This is not a “normal” navigation as this triprequires people to jump – lots!

Day Three
Morning Objective: Pushing personal boundaries
Rock Climbing, Abseiling and Via Ferrata options off Three Kings –Beautiful views of Karaka Bay, and a real feeling of exposure makes abseilinga fantastic activity to help clarify the mind over matter debate. Develop trustin yourself and team mates as you develop your rock climbing skills. Followour new via ferrata by clipping yourself onto steel cables while you climb andtraverse the top of Three Kings.
Afternoon Objective: Encourages teamwork, effective communication, leadership and personalconfidence development, building on the morning’s session.
Sea kayaking – an introduction to sea-kayaking. Learn how to gear up for akayaking trip, how to be safe in and around kayaks and the ocean.
Evening Presentation – navigation workshop
Day Four
Morning Objective: Leadership and team work opportunities to put the weeks learning intopractice – in a challenging, yet fun setting.
Sit on top Kayaking: Sit on top kayaks are used for this activity and within ashort time complete beginners can be feeling the rush of surfing in on thebreak water.

Afternoon Snorkelling: A wide range of sites are used, normally involving rockyshorelines near beaches where kayaks can be landed. Water is normally overhead depth, but steep drop-offs and tidal currents are avoided for all butexperienced snorkellers.
Day Five, Six& Seven
Objective: Double overnight run by the group
Overnight - Teamwork ensures efficiency; a sense of adventure providesthe rewards. Explore the rugged coastline of Great Barrier Island, and stop tofish along the way. Heading towards your overnight campsite. Pack up thenext day to explore even more terrain and set up camp again.
Afternoon Return from overnight, Clean-up and Debrief weeks learning’sDepart After pack up and lunch students will depart the centre around 2.30pm
