Creating the Cross Optical Illusion

1) Begin with an X and Y axis

2) measure every 1/2 inch on x and y.

3) Always begin in the center of intersection.

4) Closest ‘x’ mark goes to the furtherest ‘y’ mark.

The second design is called the starburst

Create an ‘x’, ‘y’, and ‘z’ (diagonal line) on your paper.

Begin with the closest mark on the ‘x’ and connect to furthest mark on ‘y’ and ‘z’.

2) connect the new dots to form a new box

3) continue creating overlapping boxes until you run out of room

4) you may want to balls designs within the square for a challenge.

AssessmentAssessment

Create three optical designs (push yourself technically and creatively).

The cross design: use complementary colors (colored pencils)

The starburst - use analogous colors (colored pencils)

The box - Use two colors -varying their value range - from light to dark.
