OP ART
Op Art is a movement from the 1960s which used precise geometrical patterns painted in vivid colours or black and white to create optical illusions of movement and fool the viewer's sense of perspective.
Artists use the properties of warm colours which appear to advance and cool colours which appear to recede in these illusions.
Key artists include Bridget Riley, Victor Vasarely, Julian Stanczak and Patrick Hughes.
Op Art had a revival in the 1980s through artist such as Philip Taaffe and Peter Schuyff.
