This week our parade focused on students using The Resilience Project pillars: Gratude, Empathy and Mindfulness. Students have been learning about this during the term since all students returned to school. I asked students to pracse these atudes this week and during the holidays. When we are grateful for what we have, do something kind for others, and spend some me doing something for ourselves, this helps our mental health. This might be a good dinner table conversaon. School Opinion Survey Thank you to the 20 families who have completed the School Opinion Survey. With 360 families I would love to see many more parents compleng it. You can use your phone or a computer. It is confidenal and takes about 5 minutes. We encourage you to complete the survey online through the following link. hps://survey.qed.qld.gov.au/form/Parents-HaveYourSay.aspx If you are unable to do so on computer or smartphone please let the office know so office staff can arrange for a hard copy for you through the SOS address. Report Cards Teachers are currently preparing report cards and these will be issued in Term 3 Week 2. Ensure that we have your correct email address as these will be emailed. Report cards will be a modified report card so you will see some differences from previous years. This semester we will only be reporng on English, Maths, Science and HPE. Oonoonba SS Report card includes 2019 School Opinion Results. These are included in the Annual School Report for 2019 which has been added to the website. This year the Annual Report has also been modified. Here is a link to the Annual Report. hps://oonoonbass.eq.edu.au/supportandresources/formsanddocuments/annualreports/annual-report-2019.pdf Facilies enhancements During the holidays a new roof will be installed over the prep playground. This was money gained from a successful grant which the P&C Execuve completed. We are also fencing the Mulpurpose Courts and locking them to prevent the unauthorised persons entering and using the facility. Contrary to public belief, schools are not public spaces and therefore permission from the principal is required before entering the grounds including aſter hours. This does also apply to students who aend the school. Term 3 Term 3 resumes on Monday July 13. There is a Student Free Day on Friday September 04 so parents will need to find alternave arrangements on this day as it is a designated Professional Learning Day for staff. At this stage lile has changed at school re COVID-19 in relaon to adults entering the grounds. This will connue for Term 3. Adults must not congregate inside the school grounds or outside. Therefore we will connue to encourage parents to stop, drop and go. Our Vision……‘CONNECTING AND ENGAGING THROUGH LEARNING’ Our Belief………..“Our Students are worth whatever it takes”.

Tuckshop News from Mel Thank you to everyone for making our SHOW DAY RED FOOD DAY such a great success with just short of 120 orders it proved to be a very exciting and popular event for our students and what a great way to celebrate the last week of Term 2. We will be back as of Week 1 in Term 3 continuing to operate Wednesday, Thursday and Friday only from 8:30am to 2pm. Remember if you haven't set up a Flexischools account yet, it really is very easy to do so. Simply log onto their website www.flexischools.com.au or download the app, create an account using your email address and link your child/ren and their classes. If you think you might have a little time free on one of the three days of the tuckshop’s operation, and you would like to volunteer, we are always happy to have some helping hands. You don't have to be a Master Chef by any means, it could be as simple as packing lunch orders, printing, laminating, stocking fridges, packaging baked food items etc. Please feel free to message the Oonoonba Tuckshop Facebook page or pop down and have a chat. Wishing you all a happy and safe holidays! Many thanks, Mel
News from Music Well time has certainly flown this term in the music department. Just as the children are getting back into the swing of their music lessons, it’s time for a break again. If your child is part of the instrumental program at school, please remind them over the holiday to still practice, because “Practice will make you better than you were before”. Even just a short 10 minute practice every couple of days is better than no practice at all. Both Mrs Jung and Mr Temple have been impressed with all the children since their return to school after our “at home” learning experience. Hopefully next term we will be able to restart our ensemble rehearsals, maybe with smaller groups, and choir should be able to start as well. Choir children can continue to learn the words for I am Australian and if they watch the ABC at all, they can see and hear this song on their ads. We are also aiming to learn the Auslan signs for the chorus of the song. Until next term, Yours in Music Mrs Gough, Mrs Jung and Mr Temple
A note went home yesterday with an invoice attached for the upcoming Chris Collin author visit for students in Prep to Year 6 on Thursday and Friday 23-24 July 2020.
The cost for the 45-60 minute year level session is $4.00 per student.
The focus for the Prep to Year 2 year level sessions will be on exploring literacy with fun – through rhyme, music, puppets and art. The focus for the Year 3 to Year 6 year level sessions will be on creating fun picture books using rhyme and humour. Classroom teachers will be present.
The sessions will most probably take place in our large multi-purpose hall area and Chris will be observing social distancing and other covid-19 protocols.
If you wish for your child to attend her/his year level session with the class, please give your permission by paying the cost of $4.00 per student by:
* BPoint online as per details on invoice attached to the note, or;
* By EFTPOS at the school office, as the office no longer accepts cash payments.
Please assist us with organisational arrangements and ensure payments are made by Tuesday 21 July, by 9:30am. Unfortunately late payments after the due date and time will not be accepted.
More information about Chris Collin author, can be found on his website: www.funkybooks.com.au
Vacation Message
The first two terms of the year are near complete and whilst they have been successful, they have not been without their challenges due to the response to the Covid-19 pandemic. What has continued to amaze and reassure me everyday has been the resilience shown by families, staff and students at our wonderful school.
A silver lining to adversity is the way people work together to create solutions and find new or alternate ways of doing things. This takes a lot of effort and energy and is often draining so I do hope that over the next two weeks families, staff and students get an opportunity to in some way rest up, refresh and recharge the batteries ready for semester two. Most importantly, I hope that they get to enjoy the next two week time period.
For those of you travelling within Queensland, please travel safely and if you are seeing a family member who lives in another part of the state, or who is visiting for the first time in several months, I hope all goes well.
On behalf of the Oonoonba State School P&C and Fairfield Central shopping centre, we presented the staff with a
token of our appreciation for the mammoth effort they put into Semester 1 2020. Free coffee and chocolate!
