Good Bye 2014
The year of the 2014 will be looked on by most explorers in Ontario as
a slow, hard year! The exploration dollars being spent in the Province
dropped dramatically but there was still some worthwhile highlights.
In Timmins Lakeshore, Gold seems to be getting their deposit figured
out with new discoveries being made also, Red Lake Goldcorp pushes
forward and Rubicon are still heading to production, Premier Gold
is steadily moving the Trans Canada project in Beardmore toward
production. New discoveries like Probe Mines, Borden Gold Project
emphasize the potential that still is hidden in Ontario.
The Ontario Prospectors Association is helping the Northern
Prospectors Association and Northwestern Prospectors Association
put on the spring symposia. The Northeastern Mines and Mineral
Symposium is March 30 and 31, 2015 at Northern College in Kirkland
Lake. The Northwestern Mines and Mineral Symposium is in Thunder
Bay is going to be presented at the Valhalla April 8 and 9, 2015. Both
shows will feature displays and presentations highlighting exploration
companies, government geoscience and corporate suppliers. By the
spring, when these Mines and Mineral Symposia are presented let’s
hope we are into better markets!
It needs to be noted that Ontario is progressing toward claims
acquisition by Map Selection. It is critical that all explorationists in
Ontario follow the progress of the transition to Map Selection and
attend Regional Association meetings that will have updates.
Here’s to a great 2015!

Ontario Leading Mineral Development
January 2015
Ontario is known around the world as a global
leader in mining. We are the number one
jurisdiction in Canada for mineral production
value and exploration spending—with the
value of our mineral production last year
reaching nearly $10 billion.
While there have been global challenges for
investment in mining exploration, Ontario continues to have a thriving
mineral exploration and production industry. In the past decade, more
new mines have opened in Ontario than anywhere else in Canada: the
province is home to 43 mines and 10 smelters and refineries. There are
approximately 900 mining supply and service companies which support
these industries in Ontario and globally. The supplies and services industry
employs more than 40,000 people and has an estimated direct economic
impact of $6.6 billion.
The success of mineral development in Ontario is made possible thanks
to the work of mining and prospecting communities who have been a
catalyst for creating jobs in Northern Ontario and are contributing to
the growth of our economy. Today, work is being done on a number of
important discoveries such as the Ring of Fire project as well as more than
30 advanced mineral exploration projects.
It’s no secret Ontario’s success in mineral development is a result of our
strong commitment to innovation and collaboration. We remain dedicated
to supporting competitive regulatory and taxation policies and ensuring
our approach to mineral development balances the interests of all parties.
This includes respecting Aboriginal and treaty rights, private landowners,
public health, safety, and the environment.
The future of mining in Ontario is bright. Working together, I am
confident our province’s mineral resource production will continue to
drive investment and growth for generations to come.
