Dear friends,

Welcome to the Academy of Music, and the Philadelphia premiere of Mean Girls, the movie-turned-musical from superstar comedian and Philadelphia-area native Tina Fey. This high-energy show takes audiences along on the rollercoaster of high school, with lessons in forgiveness, compassion, and self-acceptance included. Mean Girls is honestly SO FETCH, but we doubly love the strong message of empowerment and strength embodied in the arcs of these characters, especially the female queen bees. We hope that young people visit our Kimmel Center Cultural Campus and see examples of successful women not only in the arts but in all disciplines, examples that inspire our future generation. Our 2019-20 season showcases passionate females — from jazz leaders Jazzmeia Horn (March 14), Joanna Pascale (April 25), and Bria Skonberg (May 9); to renowned comedians Paula Poundstone (March 7) and an all-female troupe with The Second City: She the People (April 9 – 11); to National Geographic Live’s Egyptologist Kara Cooney with When Women Ruled the World (March 18). Tony, Emmy, and Grammy Award-winning Audra McDonald returns to the Campus (April 11); while the Kimmel Center commissions Turn (February 26 – 29), a world-premiere piece examining Othello through the personal lens of Black women and feminism, developed by M’Balia Singley as part of her 2017-18 Kimmel Center Theater Residency. Don’t forget about our Broadway Philadelphia season, boasting a combined 44 Tony Awards this year, including stories of strong females like Hello, Dolly!’s Dolly Levi, Waitress’ Jenna, and Summer: The Donna Summer Musical’s real-life heroine. As we embark on another holiday season on the Cultural Campus, we are thankful for the opportunity to transform lives daily through the arts as a non-profit performing arts center with a breadth of community programs, like our 100% FREE education initiatives. Last year we unveiled a 5-year Strategic Plan for Growth and a new “Creative Stages” program — with a goal to educate, engage, and inspire 100,000 students per year by the fifth year of our plan. We explore a range of musical & artistic genres, including jazz, musical theater, and technology, providing support like matinees and Teacher Appreciation Program events. TINA FEY (Book) is a writer, actor and producer known for her award-winning series “30 Rock” and “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt,” as well as nine seasons on “Saturday Night Live” (Weekend Update, Sarah Palin, Mom Jeans). Films: Sisters, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, Date Night, Mean Girls (her first screenplay). In 2010 she became the youngest recipient of the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. Her best-selling book Bossypants has sold 3.7 million copies. Writing the book of Mean Girls marked her Broadway debut, and she is thrilled to

be taking the show nationwide. She lives in NYC with her husband Jeff Richmond and their two fancy daughters. She dedicates her work here to her mom Jeanne, for loving and feeding the many teenage loudmouths that went on to be characters in this show.

JEFF RICHMOND (Music/Vocal Arrangements) is an award-winning composer, songwriter and producer for television, theater and film. He served as composer and an Executive Producer on NBC’s “30 Rock,” winning three Primetime Emmy Awards alongside his wife Tina Fey. He was a musical director at The Second City in Chicago and at “Saturday Night Live,” where he spent five seasons composing original songs for stars like Jack Black, Queen Latifah and Catherine Zeta-Jones. Jeff’s New York theater credits include the musical Melancholy Baby, the inaugural production of the Ars Nova Theater, the score for Fully Committed on Broadway starring Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Mean Girls on Broadway, which opened in April 2018. DAVID TURNER (Executive Producer) began working with the late Stuart Thompson in 2008. Prior to coming to work with Stuart, David managed numerous Broadway, Off-Broadway and touring productions and co-founded the Adirondack Theatre Festival. FacilitiesA COMMITMENT TO SAFETYThe safety and comfort of visitors, artists, volunteers, and staff at the Kimmel Center, Academy of Music, and Merriam Theater are of paramount importance. In the event of an emergency, audience members will be advised of appropriate procedures by ushers and security staff. At this time, please take note of the exit nearest you. A red, illuminated EXIT sign should be visible, with an arrow indicating the direction of the exit door. Should an emergency arise, you will be directed to leave the auditorium and further instructions will be provided as to the safest and quickest way to exit the building. Patrons who need special assistance should contact an usher.

ACCESSIBILITYThe Kimmel Center is wheelchair-accessible from its east and north entrances. The Academy of Music is wheelchair-accessible from the east lobby entrance on Broad Street. The Merriam Theater is wheelchair-accessible from the main entrance on Broad Street. Elevators serve all levels of the Kimmel Center, with accessible seating and ADA-compliant restrooms available on all levels. Accessible seating is available on the Orchestra level of the Merriam Theater, with accessible restrooms on the Mezzanine level. At the Academy of Music, accessible seating is available on the Parquet and Balcony levels, with accessible restrooms located on the Canteen level. Assistive listening devices are available for loan. Large-print programs are available upon request of an usher at all Kimmel Center Presents performances. Audio Description and American Sign Language interpretation are available for select Broadway Philadelphia performances. A limited number of ADA-compliant parking spaces are available in the Kimmel Center garage.

COAT CHECKA complimentary coat check is located on the lower Mezzanine level of the Kimmel Center and on the ground floor of the Academy of Music. Coat check is not available at the Merriam Theater.

RESTROOMSRestrooms are located on both sides of the lower Mezzanine and on Tiers 1, 2 and 3 of the Kimmel Center; on all levels of the Academy of Music; and on the lower level, the Balcony level, and Family Circle at the Merriam Theater.

WATER FOUNTAINSWater fountains are located on all levels of the Kimmel Center and the Academy of Music and in the restrooms of the Merriam Theater.

PAYPHONESPayphones are located on the lower Mezzanine level of the Kimmel Center.

SMOKINGSmoking is prohibited on the Kimmel Center campus.

TOURSThe Kimmel Center offers two free tours. One-hour Building and Theater tours are offered Tuesday through Sunday at 1pm. Ninety-minute Art and Architecture walking tours are offered Saturday at 10:30am (no theater interiors on this tour). Register at the Information

Desk, 15 minutes before tour time, on the day of your tour. Parties of 10 or more are asked to make advance reservations. Free tours of the Academy of Music are available on selected dates, by reservation only. CHILD POLICYWith the exception of performances specifically noted as Family Friendly, Kimmel Center Presents and Broadway Philadelphia performances are not recommended for children under 6 years old. This recommendation exists to ensure all of our patrons the best possible experience. All audience members, including babes in arms, require a ticket.

FOOD AND BEVERAGEConcessions by Chef Jose Garces and Garces Group are available to guests in the Kimmel Center at the PECO Bar and the PECO Annex Bar and to Academy of Music and Merriam Theater patrons at satellite bars located in the lobbies and upper levels. For your convenience, Kimmel Center patrons may pre-order their intermission beverages at the PECO bar up to 90 minutes before performances in Verizon Hall and one hour before Perelman Theater performances. Both bars open 90 minutes before Verizon Hall performances and PECO Café opens one hour before Perelman Theater performances.

TICKETSTickets for performances at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, Academy of Music, and Merriam Theater can be purchased online at kimmelcenter.org, at the Box Office (open daily 10am to 6pm, later on performance evenings), or by calling 215.893.1999.

OFFICIAL TICKET OUTLETTicket Philadelphia, a division of the Kimmel Center, is the only authorized outlet for individual tickets for shows at the Kimmel Center, Academy of Music, and Merriam Theater. We urge patrons to purchase tickets only through kimmelcenter.org, ticketphiladelphia.org, or the official websites of our Resident Companies. Tickets purchased from other sources are purchased at your own risk. Many unauthorized ticket sellers use website names that are similar to our website or even include the names of our various venues. These websites are not authorized to sell tickets to events in our venues. By purchasing only through our official outlets, you are assured that the ticket you receive is valid and is being sold to you at face value.
