Matt Damon is in talks to reprise his role as the amnesiac CIA agent, Jason Bourne.

It’s been seven years since audiences last saw the Oscar winner take down CIA deputy director and head of operation Blackbriar, Noah Vosen.

Since then, Damon has distanced himself from the franchise that saw a spin o  movie – The Bourne Legacy – meet mixed reaction from audiences in 2012.

However, in a turnaround for the franchise based on the book series of Robert Ludlum, reports suggest that Universal Pictures is now in discussions with both Damon and director Paul Greengrass (The Bourne Supremacy (2004) and The Bourne Ultimatum (2007) ) to return to their roles within the series.

While reports are still to be confirmed, the film is scheduled to hit screens worldwide from July 16, 2016, a slot originally assigned to an untitled Legacy sequel, starring Jeremy Renner.

The spin-o  film will still go ahead, with release date to be confirmed.

Much of the upcoming James Bond movie is being kept firmly behind tight lips. In fact, we don’t even know the title yet.

But what we do know is enough to get hearts racing, as the world eagerly awaits the release of Bond 24.

Daniel Craig is returning to the role, and that’s enough for most. But now it looks like he will be joined on set by two-time Oscar winner, Christopher Waltz who is poised to play a ‘significant role’ in the movie that starts filming early next month.

The nature of the role is as yet undisclosed, so there is still room for Mark Strong to take up the mantle as the film’s villain, despite his denial of the rumours.

But whoever the villain, what is for certain is that Guardians of the Galaxy star, Dave Bautista will put his muscle to use in the role of Hinx, a modern take on the classic Bond henchman.

French actress Lea Seydoux will star as the new Bond girl who will no doubt bring European feistiness to screen to compliment the film’s Austrian backdrop.

Ralph Fiennes- the British actor best known for his role in The English Patient – will return as M, having relinquished the role from Dame Judi Dench in 2012’s Skyfall.

With any good Bond film comes the iconic theme song, and British pop star Sam Smith has been linked to the forthcoming movie score. The singer has been in talks with Bond producer Barbara Broccoli, edging out Lana Del Rey.

Meanwhile, Adele has also been reported to be writing a new song for the upcoming James Bond movie.

Daniel Craig has brought back the darker and edgier side of 007 that we last saw when Sean Connery picked up the famous Walther PPK gun in the first James Bond film Dr. No (reviewed by Charlie Green on page 22)

Sean Connery was thought of as the original and best James Bond but between the other faces to portray the MI6 agent, Daniel Craig has turned the heads of many 007 fans by far and has already signed for bond 25 so I for one am happy to say in the ending words of the films ‘Daniel Craig will return’.

It was only two years that Peter Jackson set out on his second adventure across Middle Earth.

So why does it feel like we have aged a generation in waiting for our love a air with the epic tale of Dwarves, Elves, Orcs and Dragon to conclude.

Perhaps it’s because, for many of us, we have grown with Jackson as our guide through the intrepid terrains of Middle Earth? Perhaps, like me, if you still own The Fellowship of The Ring on VHS, you have seen cinematic technology advance more in the last five years than it has ever done. The look Jackson delivers to screens today, is sorcery worthy of Gandalf.

But more than anything, perhaps it is because we have seen our heroes grow and have grown with them.

2012 saw our reluctant hero, Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) step hesitantly in to the unknown, joined by a Company of 12 Dwarves, and into a journey filled with terror and adventure at every corner.

Since crossing that threshold, we have seen him develop from the English gentleman stereotype with big feet and bushy hair, to Hobbit, stout of heart and sharp of mind.

“Both Pete and I wanted [Bilbo] to be layered and empathetic,” Freeman told Empire Magazine. “Pompous and

a bit of a scaredy-cat, but also find true heroism.”

And where Jackson left audiences with 2013’s The Desolation of Smaug, Bilbo had certainly discovered that. OK, so he also unleashed the tyrannical Dragon Smaug in to Middle Earth where he will no doubt rain terror upon the villagers of Laketown. But the fact is, we have made that journey with him.

Now, come December 2014, our adventure will come to an end. Bilbo, Thorin Oakenshield and his Dwarves must face the consequences. Meanwhile, Sauron the Dark Lord has sent forth his legions of Orcs in a stealth attack upon the Lonely Mountain.

Will Dwarves, Elves and Men decide to unite or be destroyed in Jackson’s final installment of The Hobbit saga. Something tells us and that our little hero will have a large role to play in the concluded story, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies.

And if it’s going to be anywhere near as teary as 2003’s (Yes, 2003) Return of the King, you’d best bring the tissues.

Wild, anarchic but ultimately hilarious, The LEGO Movie proves you don’t have to be Pixar to create family friendly popcorn fodder.

And here, the term is used endearingly, no matter how hard Warner Bros. execs must have been rubbing their hands together when Christopher Miller and Phil Lord presented a first script.

Revolving around the world of Bricksburg, the film follows our unlikely hero, Emmet (played by Hollywood buoon connoisseur, Chris Pratt) who comfortably resides in this pixel-esque utopia, until one day he is mistakenly identified as the saviour of the LEGO universe, the Master Builder.

Emmet soon finds himself joined by a comedic cast of characters, including LEGO Batman (Will Arnett) and the God like Vitruvius (Morgan Freeman) charged with stopping the evil tyrant Lord Business (Will Ferrell) from destroying their world.

And what’s the one substance capable of destroying the free flow of creativity? It’s superglue, of course.

Hollywood knows that writing/directing duo, Lord and Miller are

currently on a roll and The Lego Movie doesn’t fall short of expectations. The pair express an ability to entertain both adults and children, through an anarchic writing style that manages to play upon countless years of pop culture.

Combined with some of DC’s most iconic characters (Arnett’s Batman manages to steal the movie’s best lines) and a storytelling to challenge Pixar, The Lego Movie installs itself as an instant family favourite. And while kids can enjoy the film’s slapstick, it’s ultimately the adults who will receive the full benefit of the film. And let’s not even start on the many complex levels of the AFOL. (adult fan of LEGO - yes, it’s a thing).

Jonah Hill and Charlie Day join Pratt, Freeman and Ferrell in a superb line-up of cast members, and even Channing Tatum manages to keep his clothes on for the full 100 minutes, if only rearming the wizardry of Lord and Miller’s work.

The LEGO Movie is in many ways the perfect family film, packed with jokes and anarchic slapstick that will have you and your kids guawing through your popcorn throughout.

Liesel is a young girl of the late 1930s’ Nazi Germany, who when abandoned by her communist mother, finds herself in the care of an elderly childless couple: Hans (Georey Rush) and Rosa (Emily Watson).

Taught to read by Hans, the child finds herself impassioned by the very thing her country’s captors are burning and takes to stealing books to share with her own kin.

The film centres on Liesel’s relationship with her adoptive parents and her school friends Rudy Steiner (Nio Liersch) and Max (Ben Shnetzer), a Jewish friend of the family and bringer of friendship and great danger to Liesel’s world.

Brian Percival takes the helm to bring Markus Zusak’s bestselling novel to life, capturing the banal, the bizarre and the terrifying happenings of German village life in throws of WWII.

Despite a grand opening, the story flatlines somewhere near the beginning and struggles to find coherence thereafter, and while having all the ingredients of a harrowing Holocaustic picture, the film lacks all tension and danger.

Sophie Nelisse and Nico Liersch oer great performances in their roles as junior leads and their scenes together bring emotion to an otherwise vacant feature.

A lasting thought goes out to young Nozomi Linus Kaisar who makes his acting debut as the Fat Faced Goalie. This pie scong young thespian will surely require a few sessions of self-esteem building following that credit.

ONE FROM THE VAULT

22

The first in a 50 year film series of quips, hips and quis, Dr. No oozes with sexual nuances, entendres of countless dimensions and bikini clad ocean sirens, in what is perhaps the quintessential Bond movie.

A cocktail of murder, mystery and menagerie, the film lands Her Majesty’s finest asset on the island of Jamaica, giving a young Sean Connery a break from the bodybuilding for his first taste of espionage.

Between a flurry of sexual encounters, Bond finds time to investigate the death of a fellow British agent on a trail that leads him to the underground base of Dr. No – a figure determined to end the US space programme.

If the concoction of Britain’s booziest batchelor vs. the evil genius of a maniacal island dweller with a PHD doesn’t hold your attention, then Ursula Andress’ get up as the now iconic Honey Ryder certainly will.

Of the film’s hefty $1million budget, clearly very little was spent on Ryder’s costume, producing one of Hollywood’s most memorable introductions - certainly no boy has eyed an oversized seashell the same way since – and can perhaps take a good portion of credit for the film’s financial success of $59million at box oce.

Dr. No (Joseph Wiseman), meanwhile, is brought to life with great sophistication in a role that, despite not making an on-screen appearance for the majority of the film, certainly sets the bar for Bond’s many adversaries to come.
