What's NewThe rollout of the new Vintages merchandising strategy and signage package should now be complete in most stores. This was a big undertaking, and a huge step in our goal to continuously enhance and improve the customer shopping experience.

We'd like to thank all who participated in the successful implementation of this change. THANK YOU!

Stores that carry a smaller assortment of Vintages products and merchandise these products on a wall or on a single fixture received their signage kits and merchandising instructions in early May. These stores should strive to complete the merchandising change and signage update by June 12. If you have any questions about how to merchandise your Vintages section, please email [email protected].

Release Overview May 28, 2016

Feature A – Veneto

Veneto, though smaller than Italy’s other most-recognized regions, Piedmont and Tuscany, produces far more wine than either and is in fact Italy’s leading wine-producing region. This historic region is home to legendary rich and fruity red wines (Amarone & Valpolicella), as well as refreshing whites (Soave) and the famed sparkler (Prosecco). This feature provides some light education around Veneto and its winemaking techniques and styles, and showcases an assortment of top-quality wines for customers to enjoy.

Feature B – Judgment of Paris

In honour of the 40th anniversary of the Judgment of Paris, this feature celebrates the seven players from the watershed event and shares some of the wines they are making today. In this feature we educate and remind customers of how California wines were put on the map through the unlikeliest of circumstances and showcase our world-class wine selection.

Whisky Shop – What’s On in Vintages

In the What’s On section of the May 28 release catalogue, the LCBO Whisky Shop is featured as a destination for customers seeking high-end spirits. If customers not familiar with the Whisky Shop come into the Vintages section looking for it, please direct them to the appropriate part of the store. The feature also provides a link to the Whisky Shop landing page on lcbo.com and featured products, so customers may also have questions about specific whiskies.TRADE COPY O

Vintages Ontario Superstars

The Vintages Superstars program promotes great local products and encourages customers to pair them with food. Recipe suggestions are highlighted on the signage. Each period there will be three Ontario Superstars: two LCBO wines and one Vintages Essential. This is a mandatory program and is being added to participating stores' location maps each period. The program is set with a suggested minimum of one case to support the program; i.e., one case will be forced to each participating store. Stores should replenish as required.

Basket Sign Merchandise the participating product in a basket. Install the basket sign in the metal holder. Display the fully merchandised basket in the LCBO Ontario VQA wines section next to the VQA fixture. Take down once stock is sold out, or by June 19, 2016.

Pre-printed Shelf Talker

Install the pre-printed shelf talker in front of the featured product, in its on-shelf position within the Vintages section, using a Miracle Stick (available at Central Supply #692012). Take down once stock is sold out, or by June 19, 2016.

Available Chilled Hot Button

The Vintages BAM & LTO signage will arrive in the mailbag the week before each promotional period starts. This is a mandatory supplier program. All In-channel Shelf Talkers for the participating products should be installed at the start of the period. If you do not receive your kit, please call helloLCBO to request a kit.

PLEASE NOTE: All BAM and LTO pre-printed signage has been permanently changed to an In-channel Shelf Talker. The signage (4” w. x 2” h.) should be installed over top of the product’s bin tag.

You may continue to use the current BAM/LTO Shelf Talker generic template to reprint any damaged signage.

Additional Vintages Marketing Programs

This summer, customers can find even more of their favourite Vintages wines in cottage country. The 2016 program runs from May 20 until the end of Labour Day (weeks 8 – 24). This year, 118 stores are offering an expanded selection of fine wines from the Essentials Collection as well as select products from frontline releases. Participating stores were selected with help from District Managers.

On the first Thursday of every month, we launch a new Classics Collection – a limited assortment of premium wines and spirits from the most prestigious and sought-after producers and regions in the world, including rare and older vintages.

The May and June collections will be represented in one print catalogue that covers both collections. Starting June 2 at 8:30 a.m, customers can order the June products at vintages.com/shop or by phone at 416-365-5900 or toll-free at 1-800-668-5226 (Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.) on a first-come, first-served basis. Prior to the order date, the collections can be viewed online at vintages.com/classics.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Robert Mondavi Winery. We're honoured to celebrate the man whose passion and determination brought California wine to the world and whose ambition continues to inspire us today.

Customers will taste the breadth of Mondavi’s premium wines, including library vintages – ’70s, ’80s, ’90s and 2000s – of the Reserve Cabernet. Winery spokesperson and Master of Wine Mark de Vere will speak about the wines during a structured tasting followed by dinner.

Champagne Taittinger Reception & Dinner

When innovator and visionary François Taittinger chose Chardonnay as the dominant variety in his wines, the Taittinger style was born. Today, this essence is epitomized by their tête de cuvée, Comtes de Champagne. Our special guest at this exciting event is Clovis Taittinger, the great-grandson of the founder, who will be pouring the 2006 Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs, Les Folies de la Marquetterie – their first single-vineyard wine – and other premium champagnes.
