Last I knew it was! On that, have you heard about how the Illinois State Police are profiling bikers! Hard to imagine? Not at all! It happened on 20 between Belvidere and Rockford. (Down the road from Jane’s Place and Hammer Time Sports). The Illinois State Police were pulling ONLY bikers over for a safety check and having them do a breathalyzer test. If any of you were part of the ones that were pulled over please contact me with all the information that you have. If this happens to you please get their badge numbers, names, and supervisor’s information, time of day and location. I want to forward this to ABATE Legal services and see what they can do. I saw an article that said the State police were going to do this. What can we do? Contact your Illinois State Representatives and Senators and let them know this flat out discrimination. Again be polite and to the point. The best ways to contact your legislators is mail, e-mail, phone call, or visit them in their office. As I have said so many times if you do not like what is going on, be part of the process of change!! We are Americans and have the right to let our voice be heard. Too many have given the ultimate for us to let our freedoms go without a fight. Get involved now, do not delay! Your President, Mike “Livid” Myers Kishwaukee Valley A.B.A.T.E. FROM YOUR PRESIDENT I want to thank all the membership that showed up to our chapter meeting in June and the four new members. It was a great day out to ride and many of you decided to attend our chapter meeting and be informed as to what is going on with your right to ride free! It seems that the media and the State of Illinois are hell bent to give ALL bikers a hard time. All we want is to be left alone and enjoy our rides. Let me start with the media. Why is it whenever there is a motorcycle accident they want to make sure that everyone knows that they were not wearing a helmet? If the motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet they were riding their bike in accordance with the laws in the State of Illinois. Yet the media feels that they must state no helmet. What message do you think most non-riders think? · If you wear a helmet you are invincible and can ride as stupid as you wish and you will never be hurt or die. · No other vehicle will pull out in front of you. · No other vehicle will try to share your lane and run you off of the road. · No other vehicle will run you over while doing their nails, reading the paper or text messaging. I think you get the message. I know I am preaching to the choir. But it is time the choir got up and said enough is enough. I for one am so tired of their stupidity. If the media really wants to help in reducing motorcycle accidents, then they should report when the other vehicle pulled out in front of the bike and how important it is to look for motorcycles when driving their vehicles. Furthermore, how drivers shall do nothing else when they are behind the wheel except take care of the business of driving safely. And some ask me why “Livid”? It disturbs me to keep hearing about our brothers and sister getting hurt or killed by a driver that was driving illegally. The only way to stop this is to flood the media with letters, e-mails, phone calls and personal visits. As always be polite and to the point. Is this not our America the Land of Brave and Home of the Free? The Illinois State Police were pulling ONLY bikers over for a safety check and having them do a breathalyzer test. Only a government that is afraid of its citizens tries to control them. Submitted by Members: From Bob Nordvall on 6/15 It was brought to my attention that the State Police were on Hwy. 20 by the old Frank Gays pulling bikes only over into the Bar-B-Que place next door and making all that were pulled over to take a breath test. They were letting all cars go, just bikes. This is gestapo crap and the breath test stuff is bullshit. ABATE needs to get off it's ass, as well as all members and call their representatives. This isn't for our safety, this is profiling and harrassment. Saying this is for our safety is just a way that the State Gestapo can get us off the roads. I think a warning needs to go on the website as well as the newsletter in BIG BOLD TYPE of this "terroristic" activity and for all to call the congressmen and representatives. Freedom is disappearing like it is in a wildfire. Two beers will get you a DUI if you blow. Refuse the test. If enough of us lock up the courts with jury trials, maybe we can stop this crap. (Editor’s note: “BIG BOLD TYPE”, consider it done Bob.) From “Livid” on 6/17 Illinois will begin using photo radar in freeway work zones in July. One mile per hour over the speed limit and the machine will get you a nice $375.00 ticket in the mail. Beginning July 1st, the State of Illinois will begin using the speed cameras in areas designated as "Work Zones" on major freeways. Anyone caught by these devices will be mailed a $375.00 ticket for the FIRST offense. The SECOND offense will cost $1000.00 and comes with a 90-Day suspension. Drivers will also receive demerit points against their license, which allow insurance companies to raise insurance rates. This is the harshest penalty structure ever set for a governmental unit involving PHOTO speed enforcement. The State already has two camera vans on line issuing tickets 24/7 in work zones with speed limits lowered to 45 MPH. Photos of both the driver's face and License plate are taken. Pass this on to everyone you know who might be affected!!! (Editor’s note: It never ends: Only a government that is afraid of its citizens tries to control them.) Submitted by Members: From Fred Schwartz Jr. on 6/15 At our Board/Officer meeting we were discussing having a Rescue Riders class in March or other cold month. I think there was enough interest that we could have a class sooner. We are out there now. Why wait? Maybe make March an annual class. Maybe a Rescue Riders chapter will be formed and they can deal with doing future classes. I bet the Officers and Board that are interested would be enough for a class. Maybe July 25 or 26th or August 15, 16, 23, 29 or 30th. (Editor’s note: See more on this subject in Fred, Marion, and Karl’s reports.)

Officer Reports

MembershipHello Everyone,Well the weather is finally cooperating at little bit. We had nine new members thismonth and six members that have comeback to ABATE. So not bad for the month. But the bad news is that there are about 25-30 people who expired two months agoand who have not renewed and they will begoing off the membership list. This is notgood odds what has been hurting us withour membership numbers. We have to keepup on the renewals. Unfortunately it is notjust our chapter. This is happening statewide. It got a little better in March and Aprilwith the helmet law bill but then it slackedoff. If you see someone whose name is onthe list remind them to renew and pick upsome forms to give them. The Membership Contest is going good sothat does help some what. Bert Perry has 8,Trish Boland has 7, Ed Elvin has 11 (he didthe talking not me), Karl Dahlin has 8 andpast how many years winner Bob Nordvallhas 6. (He finally made a showing). Plus, there are a bunch of people who havesigned up at least one person, if not more. The top five people have signed up 40 newmembers so that is a great showing. Butthere is always room for more people. Soget out there and talk to people. If you haveany questions, please give me a call. I willbe more than happy to get you any answer. Thanks a lot to all who have signed up newmembers. If everyone signs up just one itwould double our chapter and that is not abad idea. The picnic had about 30 people. Mostshowed up after the rain stopped and thesun came out. A big thanks to Rosie andBob for getting the grills ready and gettingthe things for the picnic. They did a greatjob. And also thanks to our cook MikeMyers. The burgers, brats and hot dogswere great. And we even got one of ournew members, Dan McIntyre who bravedthe rain and came out with his son. Mary Frew manned the booth for me at Bike Jam with some help and got 3 newmembers and 1 renewal so it was worth setting up the booth in the rain that morningwith Ed. Thanks to everyone who helpedout there. I appreciate your help. We had the Rescue Riders at the Junemeeting and they are offering classes forAccident Scene Management. Both basicand advanced classes. The closest classesto us are in Lake Zurich so it is being considered to bring the classes to us locallyif there is an interest. The classes are

are $30.00 each per person. Normally theyrun $55.00 but there is a grant that willcover $25.00 of the class. It was discussedto try and do one in February or March rightbefore next riding season and open it toother chapters and groups and see if wecant get a big enough class to make it worthwhile. Plus right now a lot of the times havealready been taken. One of our members,Brad Meisenburg is a Rescue Rider and he was the one that brought them to ourmeeting. If anyone has any input or questions I will try and look into gettingsome classes set up and I just need toknow how many people would like to attend. There has to be at least 10 people to makethe class worth while. Please contact me bye-mail or phone. Well that is all for now. I hope to see everyone at the Independence Run on July11th. Check out the Newsletter and Website for further information. Marion

State Board RepHi Everybody! This is Stacy, the new Media officer. Notmuch to report this month. Everything is stillnew, and I just got "the folder" from Rosieyesterday. It is probably going to take mostof the next month just to go through it,organize it, update it, and figure out what Iam supposed to be doing!!As I catch up though, I am going to beadvertising our monthly meetings more, totry to get our name out. I also have to finishpulling the proclamations together to sendthem down to state. Other than that I amjust hoping to start making some more contacts, etc. so that we can expand ourreputation, name, and goals a little more.I will be trying to make it to as many different events as possible, and also bringmore attention to them. If anyone has anychildren, nieces, whatever that would beinterested in babysitting a seven year oldgirl, going on thirty, let me know! It would bea big help, and allow me to really be moreinvolved. :)Thank you to everybody who has been supportive of me trying to do this position, and to all that have offered to help. Godknows I will probably need it in the monthsto follow!Until next time, live life, laugh, smile (anddon't bitch about the media!)Lots of luv........... Stacy [email protected]

Safety & Ed ReportAfter a busy May with presentations and thewindow wash, things have slowed down.School is out for the summer so we have no upcoming presentations. We did haveinteresting guest speakers at our Junemeeting, the Rescue Riders. They are anorganization that trains bikers in EmergencyScene Management. They work withMedical Reserve Corps and other emergency response agencies to assist in training in how to handle emergency situations. They teach us, the motorcycle riding community, how to respond shouldthe need arise. It sounds like a good ideaand we will work on trying to set up traininghere in the Rockford area for those who are interested. We will talk to the othermotorcycle groups in the area to see if wecan combine efforts and get some qualitytraining. It’s something we all could use. As Tersa put at the meeting "I'm a trainedprofessional at accident scene managementbut what happens if I go down." We needmore people out there who can respond. I myself am an accident manager but who'llsave me if I go down? Something to thinkabout. Check out their web site and voiceyour opinion at the next meeting.www.rescueriders.orgABATE ticket sales are up, this last monthwe sold almost 14 books! That's great! Weneed to keep the momentum going. It’s a $5ticket that funds our organization. For each$5 ticket we sell we get a dollar back fromthe state to help our chapter out. So pleasemake a special effort to sell or buy a tickets. All tickets are due back by the August meeting. Thanks,Karl DahlinSafety & Ed.630 715-7059

Coming To AmericaOne day, the Pope is visiting America anddriving around Washington in his limo whenhe gets an idea."Driver? Can I drive for a while?""Sure," says the driver. How can you say noto the Pope? So the Pope takes the wheeland starts driving like a maniac all aroundWashington - dodging in and out of traffic, going eighty, cutting people off. Soon, a coppulls him over. But when the Pope rollsdown the window, the cop stops dead in histracks, and goes back to the car."We got somebody really important here,"he says to his partner."Who is it? Is it a senator?""No. More important.""The president?""No. More important.""An ambassador? Who?""I don't know. But the Pope is his driver."

Editor’s note: This article was forwarded tome by a KVA member and I thought it wasworth passing on with a few personalcomments.

In the top paragraph, in the second column, it states that “the KishwaukeeValley Chapter got committments fromlawyers...” note the plural. I received one committment from one firm, this firm, andfollowing proper procedure did not take thead because of rules established at thestate level. I have no problem followingrules governing our organization which areestablished and voted on by a leadershipelected by the statewide membership andState Board Reps from every chapter.

Besides ABATE of Illinois, the UnitedStates Post Office also tells me who I cannot run ads for as well. I am not permitted to run ads for travel agencies, insurance companies, and credit relatedbusinesses otherwise we risk losing our non-profit postage rate.

Continuing in the same paragraph itstates, “Kishwaukee was prevented evenfrom providing it’s members with writtenmaterial relevant to bikers’ rights...” Sometime back I was contacted by an attorneyfrom this firm and at his request providedhim with my address so he could FedExmaterial to me to provide to the chapter. It never showed up. I wonder if it wasbecause I mentioned that I would behappy to receive the material, and presentit to the chapter leadership to look over first.

Other than talking on the phone a whileback regarding the above mentioned ad and the expected FedEx package, I have no other personal experience withthis business. I am certain that it is a finefirm consisting of many fine people. I haveheard from people who have dealt withthem and were quite pleased with theirresults. But I wonder about the tone, tenorand true agenda of the article.

In the last paragraph it says, “...4,302Americans have died fighting for our freedoms there.” So I decided I had thefreedom to pass this article on with mypersonal viewpoint because of the mentionof our chapter and my experience was different than the facts stated in the paragraph talking about KishwaukeeValley.

SPELL OUT KISHWAUKEE VALLEY:Please be sure to SPELL OUT “Kishwaukee Valley Chapter” on the application line for Chapter Preference. Do not use the initials KVA as there are two KVA chapters now in Illinois: Kishwaukee Valley and Kaskaskia Valley. This will avoid a delay in processing the applications down state as they won’t have to screw around figuring out who belongs where.

CURRENT KVA MEMBERS:Don’t forget to pickup MEMBERSHIP APPLICATIONS at the next KVA meeting. Let’s get out there and increase our numbers!

APPLICANTS, PLEASE CONSIDER:Please carefully consider checking the ABATE-PAC SUPPORT box on your MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION. This will add $1.00 to your application fee. This is a very small additional amount of money which is extremely important as it is used to support our localrepresentatives to ensure our freedoms.

LEGISLATIVE:Please fill out the section with your Congressional, Senatorial, and Representatvie Districts.
