given potential and also understand the importance of a balanced

lifestyle and to make a difference in the community.

    GEORGE MEIRING

George Meiring was 5 years old when he, together with his sister Anne and older brother

Bertus, won his first singing competition. He grew up on a farm in the Wesselsbron district

    and matriculated at Welkom Gimnasium.

During his school years he actively participated in all the school concerts and excelled at

sport achieving Free State colours in high jump, Springbok colours in hurdles and played

Craven Week Rugby. George also sang in the Free State Youth Choir and was the soloist

when they toured Europe in his Grade 11 year. At the age of 21 he won the OFM

(then Radio Oranje) Singing Talent Competion as well as The Star's Model of the Year

and was chosen by New Face Model Agency to travel to Milan where he, among others,

became a sought after Dolce & Gabana model.

Deciding to amass a wealth of experience, George worked around the world for the following 11 years for a royal family

where he performed exclusively at VIP functions in various countries including Dubai, London, Italy, Spain, Morocco and

    France.

In 2006, encouraged by his mother, he entered SABC2's Supersterre and was crowned runner up after which Sony

Music released 2 successful albums: 'Onthou die Tye' in 2007 and 'Ek Glo in Mre' in 2009.

The highlight in 2008, was George being chosen to sing the National Anthem in New Zealand at the opening ceremony

of the Three Nations Rugby match. George went on to sing in many more local matches around the country.

George was also part of the 2010 Face vs Voice OGAE competition, where he

won the Face section, came second in the Voice section which placed him

the runner up overall. The competition consisted of 26 top South African male

performers which were judged by 50 adjudicators around the world.

    LINDI STANDER

    Q: How did you get

    involved with the Help-Net

& Suzuki Fund?A: My friend and fellow

    actor Vilje Maritz was

    approached by Help-Net

    and he suggested they

    contact me as well.

I needed a car VERY badly because I couldnt afford

mine anymore and the bank took it back!!! lol :)

But mostly because I have a history of abuse myself

and felt this was the ideal opportunity to make a

meaningful difference... rather than just being

    "famous"...

Q: Name one goal you would like to achieve in

    2011?

A: I have decided to approach 2011 as a year for

personal growth. On the 2nd of October I start

walking the Camino de Santiago in Spain. It is an

800km pilgrimage. I have 26 days to complete this

journey and I can't wait for the challenge!!!!

Q:What other projects will you be busy with in

    2011?

A: The larger part of 2011 for me will be spent in

preparation for the Camino... I have to work on my

    fitness...eish...

Other than that I have a few mc jobs lined up, and

    mostly appearances for Help-net.

    Q: What makes you happy?

A: Happiness to me is very simply, being surrounded

by my loved ones (my cats and dogs) and making an

effort to make other people happy.Q: Who is your role model(s)?

A: I choose not to look up to anybody. I choose to

follow the example and philosophies of great souls.

These can be Selina (my sister and domestic), fellow

actors who strive to perfection rather than

'affection', my dad in heaven (he taught me to swim

by throwing me into the deep end) and my grandma

who was funny because she didn't know it...

The Bobs for Good Foundation aims to provide as many

children as possible with their special durable safety shoes, in

order to prevent children getting cold, sore feet, or infections.

The school shoes all have reflective stitching on them in order

to make children more visible to cars and thus preventing

children becoming victims of road accidents.

There are so many ways to get involved with the Bobs for Good

Foundation. Please check out our website

    atwww.bobsforgoodfoundation.orgor email us for more

    information [email protected]

Here are some more shoes for thought.

-Shoes are symbolic of pride and self-esteem, giving confidence to our

young learners in the classroom. We are restoring childrens dignity by

providing them with brand new school shoes.

-Many children are humiliated and teased because they do not have shoes.

We change this by planting the seed of belief in the hearts and heads of

    our most vulnerable children.

-Some schools do not allow children into the classroom if their uniform is

not complete ie, if they dont have shoes. Bobs For Good wants to increase

attendance by ensuring that children who lack shoes are given them, and

not just once, but for good.

-In Africa shoes are vital. They are the protective layer between our

childrens tiny soles and the harsh realities of our tough terrain.

-Walking barefoot to school can cause infections and diseases so its

imperative we shoe up as many children as possible to prevent

    unnecessary injuries.

-In winter months, childrens feet become cold and wet whenbarefoot in

the classroom. Bobs For Good shoes are made right here in South Africa

using real leather so our children stay warm and dry all year round.
