A brief history

“1978: The First Computer Bulletin Board System, CBBS, Goes Online

Ward Christensen and Randy Suess develop the Computerized Bulletin Board System (CBBS) in Chicago. Opened to the public the following year, it is the first electronic message-posting network.

Christensen, a physicist by education and a mainframe programmer by profession, was an electronics hobbyist in his spare time. By the late 1970s he had become expert at programming computers to transfer files from one machine to another via modems and telephone line” (tmg-emedia, inc 1999-2007).

• From time began communication has been the key factor in any transaction or interaction.

• Your not alone-has brother barriers of communication down

• At a finger tip away knowledge and information can be used

• Dictionaries and tutorials make information understandable so its worldwide

• Creative-made people creative

• IP address space in depletion“while bulletin boards will not solve the internet's problems (nor

vice versa), the convergence of the internet and bulletin board technology may offer at least metrical relief in several areas” (Bern & Aboba 1993).

Advantages

• Interesting facts-learning new facts shared by peoples opinion.

• Reliability-more reliable then picking a news paper up.

• Cost alternative-cheap alternative then paying for a newspaper.

• Advances in Security-information on that is posted and can only be got by a password.

Benefits

• Its benefits“it wasn't feasible to converse an all-hands

meeting, the company was in a hurry”(Kimball &Rheingold 2000)

Speed-information published a faster rateInformation that is not censored for

newspapersOpen discussion-opinions –original

opinions <the truth>.

Disadvantages

• Security-harder to get information of blogs-instead registering passwords and user name just to read information

• Security –expensive• Broadcasted-information broadcasted with

unsuitable photos. for example bebo finessed.• Follow terms and conditions- always read the

small print• Nowadays more laws and policies when sharing

information

• Explanation- a detailed explanation of a certain topic.

• Information on a global bases- information shared without going abroad to find it

• Wiki-a brand reliable name know for facts and equations

• “A wiki is software that allows users to easily create, edit, and link pages together. Wikis are often used to create collaborative websites and to power community websites” (wikipedia 2007).

• information is still gathered and updated every second.

• Not only information given but an option to post and voice your opinion and facts on a topic

• Free information without looking up countless of books

• Discussion groups open for a use full resources for projects and essays.
