  • 1. people have paid a serious price for what they have doneon Facebook. Most of us have been tagged in photos whenwed rather not have been, or had the odd inappropriatecomment from a friend on our wall. But these people havelost their jobs.THINK BEFORE YOU POST!

2. To keep your abuser from being able to read your e-mail without your knowledge, you may wantto:Consider using a free web-based e-mail account such as gmail or yahoo. Your messages are notdownloaded to your computer so there is no record for someone else to find. Do not write downyour password. Do not ask the system to remember your password. If you keep your Internet Service Provider: change your e-mail password to one that your abuser will not know make sure that you log out of your e-mail account fully every time you use it make sure that you are required to enter your password every time you try to access your e-mail. Do not ask the system to remember your password. Make sure all auto-login settings are offWhether you get your e-mail on a company network or through a Web mail service, your company has the legal rightto monitor your incoming and outgoing messages. But you can shut out corporate snoops by encrypting your messages. For Web mail, a quick trick is to add an "s" after the "p" in the "http://" portion of theaddress bar; this will switch you to a secure, encrypted connection. For example,https://mail.aol.com or https://mail.google.com will connect you to each service in such away that only you can read your incoming messages, and only the intended recipientscan read your outgoing mail. Microsoft automatically encrypts messages in its Hotmailaccounts, but the "https:" trick does not work for Yahoo Mail.To encrypt e-mail messages in Outlook, you need a Digital ID certificate from VeriSignthat costs $20 a year. To obtain a Digital ID in Outlook 2003, select Tool, Options, Securityand click the Get Digital ID button. 3. Many people like to go online and participate in chat rooms.Unfortunately, recent sting operations have shown that there areperverts, predators, and other nasty people who misrepresent themselveson the Web and then cause problems off the Internet. If you go onlineand chat, never give out your telephone number, address, social securitynumber, birth date, mothers maiden name, or other personalinformation. If you feel you must share contact information, ananswering service is the best choice, although a business telephone mightbe usable. A post office box number rather than your home address is theway to go when sharing mailing information. However, remember thatyou can be traced to your business through your phone number andbusiness address, and this leaves you vulnerable.Remember that once you provide personal information to someone whois unethical, they can use it illegally to impersonate you and gain accessto other personal information and accounts and/or can sell it to otherpeople who may use it dishonestly 4. If thats not scary enough, heres the other dirty truthabout Internet success. While with all the other jobs youmight just go offline on all the social channels thatdistract you, thus saving time and investing your effortswhere they are most profitable, you, the onlineentrepreneur or Internet professional, cannot do that! This is not news to you, but Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and all the other social sites are your bread and butter. You also have to stay current with all the software in yourfield, you have to read about new trends and new ideas, you have to meet the A-listers and attend webinars theywill teach you how to work better and be more effective.Your biggest distractions are often times the keys tolearning how to make more money online Paradox?Maybe. Big pain in your behind? Definitely. 5. Do you think posting sexy poses of yourself onlinewill get attention?- Yes but is that the kind of attention you want? One of the most overlooked issues with the Internet has to do with sendingpictures/video of yourself by email or instant messaging (IM), or postingthem to a social networking or photo sharing site. Once thesepictures/video are sent, theres no way for you to regain full control. If you dont respect yourself, you make it open season for everyone else todisrespect you. There is a clear line between making the occasional joke atyour expense and becoming a joke. The first person you need respect fromis yourself; it is very hard to respect anyone else if you do not you respectyourself. This means listening to how you feel and respecting those feelings, being honest with yourself showing yourself kindness, and not cuttingyourself down. This is not self-delusion or self-aggrandizement; it is honestlyknowing and valuing yourself with both your faults and merits. Does yourprofile and photo show you as someone to respect? Not someone to fear, notsomeone sexy, but someone who can be respected for who you are. Do yourcomments deserve respect or are they rude, discriminatory, illiterate, or foolish? Doyou show respect for others comments, ideas and values? Do you listen to what yourfriends are saying through their comments and provide thoughtful responses, or are allyour comments trashing them or focused on you? 6. --You can come across disgusting sexual pictures and advertisements-You could give away your personal information tosomeone you dont want to have it-You can end up in weird conversations that can be reallyuncomfortable-People can type whatever they want and it doesnt mean that it is true-If you end up sharing private information, you may be in for anincredibly embarrassing moment 7. -Its illegal for anybody to send naked picturesand send them to another person! Its seriously inappropriate and unnecessary to be sendingthose kind of pictures. You could seriously get a bad reputation by sending them. For example the person you sent it too, may send it tothere friend or show someone who you do not want to see. This subject defiantly fallows under the respecting yourselfcolumn. This kind of content just makes you look bad.
