DelegateSelection
The search through public, private and
voluntary sectors of the globe to identify and
select 1,500 One Young World delegates to
represent the voices from every country in the
world.
The One Young World mission of engaging, equipping and connecting young leaders to make positive change for our future will be achieved through four elements:
In a world first delegates will be democratically selected in proportionate representation of the world’s population. A male and female will be taken from all 192 countries (384 delegates) and the remaining 1116 delegates will be taken by proportionate representation to the worlds population on a country by country basis. This will be the first time in history that many countries have been proportionately represented at any global event.
China has 19.69% of the world population so China will have 19.69% of the delegates i.e. 259 delegates. India will have 223 delegates, US 61 delegates. The UK has 0.9% of the world population so would therefore get 13 delegates.
Proportionate representation sends a very powerful message to world leaders. It sends a message from the next generation. This unified voice will be channelled back to Copenhagen, to the WEF, to the G8 and to the UN, etc. The votes put forward by these 1500 democratically and proportionately selected leaders of tomorrow will ultimately become a unified voice of the next generation.
