Our Club Vision & Mission 2016 – 2018
To uphold Zonta’s Mission, Vision and Goals. To continue to disseminate Zonta’s advocacy to stop violence against women. To adopt and actively support District 17’s theme by conducting seminars in various schools in the
city to heighten awareness on child abuse, bullying, teen-age pregnancies, AIDS and HIV. To empower women in the City of Baguio by conducting livelihood workshops and demos. To grow awareness and visibility of Zonta and the Zonta Club of Baguio by working together with
government agencies and other non-government organizations who has the same mission as Zonta.
To increase membership and foster/improve members’ wellbeing
Our Club History
Organization of the Zonta Club of Baguio was initiated through Hon. Trinidad F. Legarda’s invitation to some civic minded women leaders to extend the Zonta ideal to the Baguio community. It was most readily accepted by a group of Baguio women executives in business and the professions who were enjoined for membership. On January 9, 1969 a training/orientation was conducted by Fely Roxas Tanco. On January 24, 1969, Zonta International Organization and Extension Committee Chairperson Dorothy Thompson and Justice Cecilia Munoz Palma confirmed the establishment of Zonta Club of Baguio. There was an initial membership of 15 women. Election of officers was conducted and the members elected the following officers: Purificacion Claridad, President; Dativa Roque, Vice President; Mary Ann Rosales, Secretary; and Sister Trinitas Valdes, ICM, Treasurer. On February 3, 1969, in a special ceremony at the Baguio Country Club, the Club was awarded its membership to Zonta International; with Charter No. 0621 and the club officers were installed by the Chief Justice Fernando and with special guests Dorothy Thompson of Ontario Canada, Justice Cecilia Palma and Fely Roxas-Tanco. On April 18, 1969, Zonta International President Helvi Sipila of the Helsinski, Finland Club received the club membership. Noteworthy projects include a construction of a school building in 1992 at the Lucban Elementary School Complex. In 2002, Zonta Club of Baguio completed construction of it’s own building at 171 Military Cut-Off, Baguio City through efforts of all members. In 2006, the Baguio City government approved the adoption by the Club of a park now called Zonta Park. The Zonta Club of Baguio was instrumental in the chartering of additional Zonta Clubs in Area 4 and the most recent club chartered in May 2014 was the Zonta Club of La Trinidad.
