Project Description Build an amphibious air cushion vehicle Approximately 12 x 6 ft, triangular shape Two engines: one for thrust, another for lift Lift engine will duct air into skirt using air
splitters Should seat two passengers (~400 lbs) Attain at least 5 mph
Hull Design In order to best use resources, a donated
engine will be used to lift the craft. Hull dimensions were determined based
on the engine horsepower. The hull was constructed primarily out of
donated insulating foam.
Propeller Design First the drag on the craft at the desired
speed was determined. From this the required thrust from the
propeller was determined. Using this data the angle of the propeller
blade was determined.
Status Hull completed. Lift duct installed. Lift fan completed. Thrust duct construction started. Thrust propeller construction started Hubs and backing plates being made Engine mount construction begun.
What’s Next? Cut thrust propeller. Install thrust duct. Construct cockpit. Build rudders and steering. Cut and install skirt. Finish metal component fabrication. Cruise for chicks.
