Established in 1971, we have more than 40 years’ experience of precision engineering, specialising in the manufacturing of diesel engine components.

Our story began at a small factory in Leicestershire, from which we supplied engine parts to the likes of British Rail, London Bus and Crane Fruehauf. Since then, we have grown into a global business operating from 50,000 square foot premises in Hinckley, employing more than 50 expert sta� and building a strong reputation as an engineering solutions provider.

Our expertise covers a range of industries including automotive, rail and aerospace, which we serve via a combination of automated and manual machinery to ensure customers benefi t from the most cost-e� ective, quality-assured methods of precision engineering.

Part of our continued success is owed to the strong family ties we have maintained over our long history. LIFE ON THE FACTORY FLOORAs you would expect from a company that produces a high volume of products for its clients every year, O.L.D.’s factory fl oor is a continuous hive of activity, even running through the night at times to ensure the needs of our customers are met.

Inside our 50,000 square foot premises, we have 26 multi-axis machines and employ more than 50 skilled operatives, many of whom have developed their careers with us and all of whom have extensive knowledge of component manufacturing as well as a real passion for the work they do.

Section Grinding Leader, Mark Houghton, has spent the majority of his 25-year career here at O.L.D. and has extensive knowledge of our products and capabilities.

Having witnessed the shift from the use of manual techniques to Computer Numerical Control (CNC) in precision engineering, Mark is able to train and support new generations of engineers in all aspects of our work.

“There’s no doubt that digital techniques are more e� ective, with parts precision engineered to a tolerance of around 4 microns. To put that in perspective, that’s 10 times smaller than the diameter of a human hair,” Mark explained. “However I believe that, especially when you’re starting out in your career, it’s important to learn about and experience manual techniques. When training new sta� , we often start them o� on the manual machines so they can get a feel for how the processes work.”

Mark is currently part of a four-man team in charge of our grinding section, but is also skilled in milling, turning and drilling among other processes. Experienced colleagues like him ensure that all of our operatives benefi t from years of knowledge, while our continual investment in training means that we are also quick to become experts in new technologies.

In our assembly section we have all the facilities needed to put together ‘in-house manufactured’ and ‘brought-out fi nished’ parts.

By using our Turbex steam and ultrasonic wash tanks, as well as our pressure testing unit, various types of pump and other sub-assemblies can be produced to the most exacting standards and controls.

We have a comprehensive range of state-of-the-art multi-axis machinery, meaning we can produce complex components in a number of materials.

CNC TURNING CAPACITYWith an extensive range of lathes we can o� er turned parts from 10mm to 800mm diameter. Our live tooling and multiple spindle machines allow us to turn the most complex of parts, from bar or billet to castings, in a range of materials including plastics, aluminium, titanium and steels.

CNC MACHINING CENTRE CAPACITYWith a range of 3, 4 and 5 axis machining centres, both vertical and horizontal, we are able to machine most parts from basic drilling to complex 3D forms. Our vertical machines can take up to 2500mm x 960mm x 1000mm. and our horizontal machines can manage up to 630mm x 630mm x 1000mm.

MANUAL GRINDINGTo complement our CNC grinders, we o�er internal, external and surface manual grinding which can be used on one-o�s and small batches. With our manual grinder, we can deal with an internal capacity of up to 250mm diameter and surface grinding of 600mm x 300mm.
