Textbook Affordability is an Issue for CEDHP Majors Calendar of Events Omicron Chapter of KDPWins Phoenix Award Thanks to the hard work of Dr. Lenora Forsythe, faculty advisor, and leadership of Bethany Fralish, President, of the Omicron Lambda Chapter of the national education honor society, Kappa Delta Pi, the chapter received one of the 2016-2017 Kappa Delta Pi Awards for Education Excellence. Omicron Chapter was selected from a large number of chapters who qualified for consideration for the award. Laura K. Perkins, Director of Membership & Chapter Services made the announcement, “I am pleased to let you know that the Omicron Lambda Chapter has been selected as honored recipients of the 2016-2017 Phoenix Award for Chapter Improvement presented by Kappa Delta Pi, International Honor Society in Education. This award is designed to recognize chapters that have taken significant action to improve their overall level of effectiveness in chapter management and programming. By selecting your chapter’s efforts as a recipient of this award, the review panel indicates that your chapter has experienced growth over the past biennium that supports the overall sustainability of the (Continued on Page 2)

ACE Partnership Begins to Take Shape Dr. Lee-Anne Spalding represented CEDHP at a
meeting regarding our community partnership
with ACE, the Academic Center for Excellence
downtown. The topics of discussion were as
follows:
1. Read for the Record 2017: field trip on October
19, 2017 for Pre-K and K students from ACE will
travel to the UCF Education gym for a morning of
literacy related activities and lunch. (Spalding/
Proctor- PNC Grow Up Great grant) https://

2. Read Across America- UCF: teacher candidates
go to ACE on March 2, 2018 and read aloud Dr.
Seuss books to K, 1, and 2 classrooms during
literacy block. Teachers will receive books and/or
chapter, and we greatly appreciate your leadership
and dedication.”

The chapter will be receiving a certificate in the mail
in the coming months, the program will be featured
on KDP’s main website, and the chapter will also be
formally recognized with a plaque at Convocation
2017 in Pittsburgh, PA on October 26-28, 2017.

3. Little Free Library: Our hope is to have built a
Little Free Library to paint and stock with free
books! A little free library which we would then
dedicate on March 2, 2018 when there for the Read

4. Finally, through KnightED Talks, we hope to
perform with ACE assistance a tour of ACE and in
the future professional development workshops on
the ACE school site to educate teacher candidates
about community partnership schools including the
rewards and challenges faced when teaching in
urban environments. Being that the school is just
opening, we’d like to plan the TOUR PD session for
February 2018, looking forward to year two where
we could host one in the fall and one in the spring at
