• It provides an open, standard approach that enables exchange of electronic healthcare information.

OMG – Open Standard

• MDMI is an approved OMG Standard (2009)

Open Health Tools (OHT)

• The OHT MDMI program is a sub-project of Model Driven Health Tools (MDHT) Charter OHT program.

• What will be available through the OHT� The MDMI Referent Index and associated tools

� Software to build your MDMI maps (Editor)

� Software to run your MDMI maps to convert your data into (Runtime)


Southeast Michigan Health Information Exchange (SEMHIE)

• SEMHIE website is www.semhie.org

• MDMI is currently being used at SEMHIE in the Social Security Administration Contract

• Present Status of project� Infrastructure is in place

� MDMI Referent Index reversed engineered from scope of project

� MDMI map for SSA message (“Charlie Test”) built

� Next phase: Development of MDMI maps for Oakwood Hospital and Henry Ford Hospital

• After initial project, goal is to extend to other practitioners in SEMHIE. � “Town Center” - Develop an MDMI Map for their systems.


ONC Transition of Care Reference Implementation

• The Open Health Tools (OHT) Model Driven Health Tools (MDHT) is working with the ONC on the Transition of Care Reference Implementation

• ONC ToC Use Cases� Discharge Summary

� Patient Referral

� Complex Care Transaction

• Objective of ToC: Provide Reference Implementations for how organizations can achieve Meaningful Use 2.

• WE ARE LOOKING FOR PILOTS SITES FOR THE REFERENCE IMPLEMENTATIONS

• MDMI continues to promise for addressing the problem of exchange of electronic healthcare information in a low-cost, high quality, extensible approach
