Thanks to all those who volunteered or attended our HOPE Festival last
week! The unique drivethrough only festival worked out smoothly,
except for Friday night. There were two storms on Friday and many
parishioners seeking a fish fry that night. We apologize for the long
delays, but hope you enjoyed your meals and time celebrating our festival this year.

We hope to be back to our traditional festival grounds and activities next year!

SCRIPTURE READINGS FOR THE 16TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
READING I WIS 12:13-16-19
There is no god besides you who have the care of all, that you
need show you have not unjustly condemned. For your might is
the source of justice; your mastery over all things makes you
lenient to all. For you show your might when the perfection of
your power is disbelieved; and in those who know you, you
rebuke temerity. But though you are master of might, you judge
with clemency, and with much lenience you govern us; for
power, whenever you will, attends you. And you taught your
people, by these deeds, that those who are just must be kind;
and you gave your children good ground for hope that you would
permit repentance for their sins.
RESPONSORIAL PSALM PS 86:5-6, 9-10, 15-16
R. Lord, you are good and forgiving.
You, O LORD, are good and forgiving, abounding in kindness to
all who call upon you. Hearken, O LORD, to my prayer
and attend to the sound of my pleading.
R. Lord, you are good and forgiving.
All the nations you have made shall come and worship you, O
LORD, and glorify your name. For you are great, and you do
wondrous deeds; you alone are God.
R. Lord, you are good and forgiving.
You, O LORD, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger,
abounding in kindness and fidelity. Turn toward me, and have
pity on me; give your strength to your servant.
R. Lord, you are good and forgiving.
READING 2 ROM 8:26-27
Brothers and sisters:
The Spirit comes to the aid of our weakness; for we do not know
how to pray as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes with
inexpressible groanings. And the one who searches hearts
knows what is the intention of the Spirit, because he intercedes
for the holy ones according to God’s will.
R. Alleluia, alleluia.
Blessed are you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth; you have
revealed to little ones the mysteries of the kingdom.
R. Alleluia, alleluia.
GOSPEL MT 13:24-43
Jesus proposed another parable to the crowds, saying: “The
kingdom of heaven may be likened to a man who sowed good
seed in his field. While everyone was asleep his enemy came
and sowed weeds all through the wheat, and then went off.
When the crop grew and bore fruit, the weeds appeared as well.
The slaves of the householder came to him and said, ‘Master,
did you not sow good seed in your field? Where have the weeds
come from?’
He answered, ‘An enemy has done this.’ His slaves said to him,
‘Do you want us to go and pull them up?’ He replied, ‘No, if you
pull up the weeds you might uproot the wheat along with them.
Let them grow together until harvest; then at harvest time I will
say to the harvesters, “First collect the weeds and tie them in
bundles for burning; but gather the wheat into my barn.”’”
He proposed another parable to them. “The kingdom of heaven
is like a mustard seed that a person took and sowed in a field.
It is the smallest of all the seeds, yet when full-grown it is the
largest of plants. It becomes a large bush, and the ‘birds of the
sky come and dwell in its branches.’”
He spoke to them another parable. “The kingdom of heaven is
like yeast that a woman took and mixed with three measures of
wheat flour until the whole batch was leavened.”
All these things Jesus spoke to the crowds in parables. He spoke
to them only in parables, to fulfill what had been said through the
prophet: I will open my mouth in parables, I will announce what
has lain hidden from the foundation of the world.
Then, dismissing the crowds, he went into the house.
His disciples approached him and said, “Explain to us the para-
ble of the weeds in the field.” He said in reply, “He who sows
good seed is the Son of Man, the field is the world, the good
seed the children of the kingdom. The weeds are the children of
the evil one, and the enemy who sows them is the devil.
The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels.
Just as weeds are collected and burned up with fire, so will it be
at the end of the age. The Son of Man will send his angels, and
they will collect out of his kingdom all who cause others to sin
and all evildoers. They will throw them into the fiery furnace,
where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.
Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their
Father. Whoever has ears ought to hear.”

With reopening churches to public Masses, we
must sanitize after each Mass in order to keep
everyone safe. Looking into July, we have only
have 28% (2 or more) of the proper amount of
sanitizers registered to serve for the Weekday
and Weekend Masses.
We cannot continue Masses without
volunteers to step up and serve!

HOLY FAMILY PARISH
HOLY FAMILY PARISHES WILL BE RECEIVING NEW SIGNS!
Holy Family Parish secured new signs for all of our church buildings recently. The LED lighted signs with the Holy Family Parish
logo will be installed at all five locations. They will be installed over the next two months. Digital signs with changing graphics will
be installed at St. John, St. Joseph and Our Lady of Joy. With less traffic on Renton Road it’s difficult to justify the cost for the
digital sign there, and in Oakmont, digital signs are almost never permitted by the ordinances there. However, we will be able to
use the changeable letter sign at SJAN and relocate the one from OLOJ to STI so that we can still have messaging at those
locations. The signs will continue to communicate that we are one parish community with five church buildings and campuses.

HOLY FAMILY PARISH
(Continued from page 3)
(Temi spiri-
tuali, Biblioteca Francescana, Milán 1967, 281-282; cf. D. El-
cid, Clara de Asís, BAC pop. 31, Madrid 1986, 193-195).

BAPTISM MINISTRY IN NEED OF VOLUNTEERS
The Holy Family Catholic Baptism Ministry is looking for new volunteers to assist in a variety of areas. We are seeking volunteers
at each parish to serve as Baptism Hosts. A Baptism Host attends a baptism and assists in greeting the family attending, as well
as assists the priest or deacon in gathering materials. Baptisms typically always follow the latest Sunday morning Mass at each
parish and only last about thirty minutes. With enough volunteers, you would only have to serve every other month and only if
there is a scheduled baptism.
Now that we are one parish, it is essential to integrate the many and varied traditions of the five individual
parishes in a cohesive, meaningful expression of our union that can be practiced in all of the Church
buildings. This applies to various practices, in particular, the White Garment Ministry. The expression of the
Baptismal white garment has been varied among our parishes. In order to be receptive to the input of
others, a meeting will be scheduled in the near future.
If you have any questions or if you would be interested in volunteering as a Baptism Host, please contact
Steph Williams by calling the Religious Education Office at 412-793-4511 or email.

OLOJ Parish Mission Statement
Our Lady of Joy Parish is a Catholic community of faith dedicated to Mary, the cause of our
joy. We are centered in Jesus Christ, empowered by the Holy Spirit and nourished by the
Eucharist. We are a welcoming family, striving to see Christ in all and responding to the needs
of the members of our parish and community. Called to act in faith, hope and love we seek to
become a visible presence of Christ in the world. Our Lady of Joy, pray for us!
SJV Parish Mission Statement
St. Joseph Parish is a faith community, rich in history and strong in its Catholic tradition since
1866. Through the grace of the Eucharist and under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we com-
mit ourselves to building up the Body of Christ through a strong spiritual life, education in the
faith and service to our parish and community.
St. Joseph, pray for us!
SJAN Parish Mission Statement
St. Januarius is a Roman Catholic community of faith focused on the life and
teachings of Jesus Christ. We are grateful to those who have built up St.
Januarius to be a welcoming, active, and spiritual parish. With the Eucharist and
through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we strive to use the gifts and talents
given to us by the Father to support the lives of parishioners at all age levels and
stages of life. We also pledge to live our lives so that through our words and
actions all may feel the presence of Jesus Christ in the world today.
St. Januarius, pray for us!
SJB Parish Mission Statement
Saint John the Baptist Parish is located in Plum Borough,
Pennsylvania and is part of the Roman Catholic Diocese
of Pittsburgh. As a faith community, we strive to imitate
our patron Saint John the Baptist who led others to Christ.
We are committed to keeping our faith alive and growing
through prayer, sacraments, faith formation and service.
Through evangelization and stewardship we encourage
full and active participation of all members. We hope to
reflect the life and love of Christ by strengthening the faith
of our parishioners while reaching out to all God’s people.
Saint John the Baptist, pray for us!
STI Parish Mission Statement

through our patron’s guidance and the Holy Spirit dwelling within us. With love,
worship, and solidarity, we are building God’s Kingdom in our families and

and His Church for the greater glory of God our Father.
“The proper glory of God is man fully alive.”
